I'm just speaking my opinion but I think that we should be able to change our username at some points. I mean I'm getting bored of Dark Demon98. And it seems like a waste of time to pay just so your name on Neoseeker changes.
I'm not saying this can be done like every week or so. This kind of change should maybe be once every 365 days and any name changing during that period should cost something.
So what do you think?

I have to admit, $10 is a rip-off for name change
You "admitting" that it's a ripoff is meaningless since you are not the one receiving the money. Red is the only individual that can "admit" that his policy is a ripoff to those who frequent his forums. You believe that it is a ripoff, which sucks for you since I paid $20 for my two name changes, both of which I felt were necessary, and I don't whine about it because Red made it clear why he instituted that policy. In fact, didn't you pay $10 to have your name changed? If it's such a ripoff you wouldn't have gone through with it, but instead you felt the price was reasonable enough to pay for the name change you wanted, since it was not a required name change for you (as in you weren't forced to change it from RikkuLover or whatever it was).

Goods individuals want are worth what those individuals are willing to pay for them, simple economics.
Okay then, I believe it's a rip-off. I really meant the same thing when I said "I admit that it's a rip-off". And yes, I did pay for a name change myself. I didn't want to pay $10 for name change, but I just decided to go with it.
Yeah Kokoro is right, a ripoff is based on the consumer's point of view.
Ex. Let's say I'm selling a computer for $9000 and it's no different than a $1000 one you find in a store. I could believe I'm not ripping you off but you will certinally say it's a ripoff

There are certain acceptions, like if the account is over 2 years old and has less then ten posts, something like that.
You can find out more about that here.

I don't support. This has to be coded by hand and Redemption just today implemented the capitilization change, this should be enough for now.

If "Fusion" was taken, how did you change "BLAHBLAHJR" to "Fusion"?

I would urge everyone to stop trying to create new arguments for and against free name changes. The bottom line is that we officially do not encourage name changes. The fee is a DETERRENT, not a revenue generation strategy. Having said that, I have also already stated we will implement such a system when possible (I wouldn't think it would be possible for a while) because I understand how much a name change can mean to some people.

If you are desperate to get a name change RIGHT AWAY and are willing to 'work for it' then I suggest you create a few quality FAQs, submit them to Neoseeker, then request for a name change as part of our policy of supporting FAQ authors who change their usernames in their FAQs. There's your existing "free name change" policy right there for those who simply MUST have the name change and resolutely refuse to pay for it. Note however that if your GameFAQs name or the FAQ name on your GameFAQs submissions are not changing we cannot honour this policy.

I could use a name change.

Again I state the
Once every 2 years you get to change
or for neopoints
One free one and then your on your own if you want another
Even that sort of feature would considerably lower the donations. I mean MOST members would want to switch their name once, there's a select few who change their name twice or more. You implement that feature and how many people are gonna change their name through the 10$ then? They change their name once and [most likely] they're happy. No use. :\

Does it make a difference? We'd still be scrambling to find out who everyone is for quite a while, no matter when the change is.
Didn't Red said something about keeping track of them?
It may take a while, but I'm sure there'll be a way.

Also, I must say I liked the pseudo-name change feature (though I have no use for it atm).
It just lacks one thing, imo: we can't change the lowercases, like the underline in my username. I just wished it could be put a space instead of it.

I was thinking that the Capitalization Method can be modified to change more characters depending on your posts, Neopoints, and GameGrep points.
  1. A standard user with 50 posts, 0 Neopoints, and 0 GG points, would only be able to change the caps and delete three numbers from his name, just like the current system.
  2. A user with 500 posts, 100 Neopoints, and 100 GG points can delete up to 3 characters (not only letters) and change the capitalization of the letters.
  3. A user with 5000 posts, 500 Neopoints, and 500 GG Points can modify the capitalization and add/delete up to 5 characters.
  4. And so on...
Obviously that's just an example of what I was thinking. Personally I think it is a good idea.
