Butch: Got to agree with what the others said, not a great piece. It's far too big than it needs to be, it's too simple and it just doesn't work.
Curses: Again, it's a bit big but better. It's a bit too bright, but the colours and the stock look good. Can't say I like the square pattern/texture in the background, but certainly better than Butch's.
Curses wins. Well done.

Butchsmudge-Too simple, don't like the lens flare, nor the random lines and the guy is blended in.
Curses-Not a bad background, although I don't like the lines and the text. Blended well though.

First of all, this sig has no real flow. A gradient, distorted lines, and a couple lens flares thrown in here and there. I especially don't know poorly cut, low quality Gears stock is there. If you're going to make it Gears themed then at least have the background somewhat related. Typography is also something to work on. Outlined text like that almost never work well. Lastly, the size, I know the size requirement was 500x200 but for these banners you both should have agreed on a smaller size.
I'll start off by saying this is a pretty lopsided battle. You compare the two and you can see an obvious difference. Anyway, like I said in the previous paragraph, the size needs to be smaller imo. With this you have lots of unneeded space which results in the banner seeming very repetitive. I'd recommend moving the stock to the center and cutting off a decent amount from the top and bottom. Then I would suggest making the text larger and closer to the stock.
I really like the white glow around the stock. Don't know why but that always appealed towards me. It's a good start but needs a few adjustments.

A three way battle?
Sounds good. I'll look forward to seeing who wins.
