Technically your bank owns it. (NAB, ANZ, Westpac, Comm Bank - Whoever you're with) You'll own it eventually. But essentially its just a more leniant rental.

At the moment I own 11% of it. Not that it was super extravagant (heck, given recent house prices and the amount of land we're getting it's actually pretty freakin' good), but we're only going to need to borrow about $300k. Plus with my mining job and the boyf graduating and becoming a doctor this year, we'll pay it off in 5-10 years.

3bed, 1 bath in an okay suburb. It's about 20 minutes from the beach, the airport and the middle of the city which isn't too bad ^^ Plus it's like 800m2 of land. The house takes up about a third of the block ahaha. Not the dream house, but an investment and step up from renting

Excellent to hear, and it sounds like you've got a great deal. I'll be building myself, as there just wasn't anything suitable when I was looking. I've got a shade under 600m2 myself, 15 minutes from the city, and literally a minute away from the ring road which opens up Melbourne and the Surf Coast (fantastic beaches :>!) in under an hour. Bought on the right side of the river too which I'm happy with.

Don't know what I'll build yet. Probably 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom type of place. Then gives me room for a small garden out back.

Anyway, enough about me - when do you move in!?!

i cant see myself building an overly large house (if i ever get the money). i actually like smaller houses, and small rooms. i can sorta see the appeal to a larger house (more space to put shit ), but i wouldnt know what to do with it. i am a minimalist, and prefer to pack as much as i can in to a smaller space. though i am also obsessed with efficiency, so id be installing things like LED lighting right off the bat, double glazing on the windows, using a fridge and freezer with a top-opening door, rather than a front one (that one saves a ton of electricity, and you have leeway with bad seals, too), and a whole list of other things.

something i have always dreamed of, is a solar powered home, completely independent from the grid. 5 KW panel array, connected to a dedicated room of AGM batteries that can hold two days worth of power, the necessary charging circuits (thost actually go between the panels and batteries), then an inverter for 240V AC, and boom! you got power! problem is, it would cost at least 20 grand, but most of it would be sunk on the batteries. solar panels can be quite cheap if you go the DIY route, and you know how to solder.

Pretty sure he is an Aussie, but because he's been out of the country forever, he's lost what accent he had.

^more or less this, but the strange thing is that ive had a hint of american accent, even when i was living in sydney. the aussie just never truly came out, for some reason. i think i need to see a specialist about it.
