aussie New Aussie Flag

In another attempt to make Australia, less Australian, there's now a proposition to phase in a new Australian flag, starting with sporting events.

What do you think of both the design, and this most recent ploy to reaustralianise our country?

i'm on the fence about changing the flag
but to that?! - no way

I think they should indeed incorporate the Aboriginal Flag into our own. After all, Australia was invaded and turned upside down. It would be a way of finally giving a bit of recognition to the oldest race in Australia's young history.

I actually like that flag. From a design standpoint there isn't anything overly wrong with it, and as a flag it is representative of our nation and culture. That said it is nowhere near the best option. We can do much better.

I'm all for changing the flag, but only once we leave the commonwealth. Fact is the union jack is a symbol of the commonwealth. Which we are still very much a part of. Makes no sense to throw it out yet.

I'm also completely against having the aboriginal flag in the national flag. At no point in history has a conquered people ever had this much influence on a nations/civilizations/cultures decision making. I'm all for helping those that want to contribute to this country and culture. Im sick of mooches, no hopers and naysayers (not just talking about aboriginals) getting handouts. This is not a question of putting down all aboriginals or denying their culture either. Simply put many get a free ride through life for no returns to our nation. On top of that it's absolutely and utterly ridiculous that generations that didn't exist are literally and figuratively paying for atrocities committed in the past. Putting the flag of their culture on the flag of the nation is disrespectful to what's been built in this country; not to mention backward thinking.

Uninformed pom opinion: I guess change it if you think it looks better but that alone is not going to change anything else. I get it the 'symbolism' of distancing yourself from the UK, who founded your country not that long ago, and whose people most of you are descended from. I suppose it doesn't really matter if we're just talking about a flag here, the queen doesn't have any worthwhile say in anything you guys do either way.

I like the union jack there, obviously. The stripey version aesthetically I'm not keen on. If anything though if you were to change it would make more sense to take on the aboriginal flag?

In the end, it doesn't boil down to what I believe, so my opinion is invalid to start with. Being an Australian, I don't want to see the flag turned into a modernized piece of s**t, I wouldn't care if they kept it as it is. I have different cultures in my family, so I can sit on both sides of the fence.

It matters completely what you think. If you're over 18. This country is a democracy. It matters what everyone thinks.

Without rallying my opinion and telling others to change their opinions to mine, I would fall short anyway.

If we did adopt a new flag, that's what I'd be voting for.
