Hey Keiichi, I just met this guy on the Animal Planet forums for Austin Stevens: Snakemaster who goes by the name of jamesharrison and his posts are very similar to yours in the way he talks about things.

I've never heard of a Zebra Cobra. Without having seen the snake, I'm inclined to agree with your identification. Sounds like a Mozambique.

I've noticed that many of the naturalists on Animal Planet have a tendancy to create names when the actual name of a given species might be hard for a younger person to understand or to remember. Perhaps this is just an allowance for the benefit of the target audience. Hence the "giant lance-head viper" instead of the Barba Amarilla, as we discussed about Austin's Snakemaster episode. I would hate to think that even Irwin doesn't know the actual name of a Cobra species.

I've never heard of that species. Where is it located?


I think Jeff Corwin is a complete idiot. I like him...I just think he's crazy. I just watched the episode where he finds a Boomslang in a tree and loses it in the grass twice. He had a very good chance of being bitten, IMO. At least Steve Irwin is a bit less clumsy...sort of.

What did it say about blue-ringed octopuses? I've read about them in a book once but it didn't give alot of information.


I know alot about stonefish. I know they look like stones so when a little fish swims by...lunch! They are very toxic to humans though. When people step on them, spines shoot upward into the person's foot. Ouch! Very painful...and deadly! My advice...wear shoes and watch were ya step.

The bite of the Blue-Ringed Octupus is painless. The venom is produced in the saliva glands and is injected when the Octupus bites. The Blue-Ringed Octupus itself is very small... about the size of a cookie. Its diet consists of crabs. I just found out the next program is on Sunday on the Outdoor Life Network and is called "Big Cats."

I was at the AP message board and when jamesharrison was asked about Steve Irwin's handling skills he said, "Steve Irwin is very reckless handling animals and swinging a snake around by the tail can and does cause spinal damage."

I was like... its another Mr. Keiichi! lol... someone asked him about his thoughts on Austin Stevens... check out what he said... "I have not attacked anyone that posts here. I have only provided facts on snakes and handling techniques. We have contacted AP and Mr. Austin Stevens directly about the misinformation and abusive handling (Not just with AS but several TV hosts). Neither would respond so we decide to give the real facts. The handling techniques in my opinion after training many herpetologists shown by Mr.Stevens are abusive . The misinformation on his show and this website are not just my opinion but backed up by real scientific information. If Mr. Stevens or anyone here would like to address the misinformation. I would enjoy a good debate.
You have a right to your opinions as do I. But working in the field I find that TV is hurting herpetology because of the lack of true educational value. Ratings rule so keep watching. But I will still be around giving out the facts and treating the kids that watch these actors show off.
The show he was bitten in was 7 Deadly Strikes . In fact he was bitten twice while harassing the snakes on this show. Also the boomslang is not the most toxic snake.
