Aren't Belts Supposed to Go Around Your Waist?

Aren't they?

YES THEY ARE KYO!
So how come 90% of all wrestlers who get the WWE title wear it over the shoulder? Won't their pants just fall down?

re: Aren't Belts Supposed to Go Around Your Waist?

The belt seems to get more attention when the wrestler is holding it.

A lot of wrestlers wear their belts around their waist....sometimes

Undertaker does, Brock Lesner did a few times, Rock does, the Guererros do, D-Von Dudly does, Lance Storm does.

I don't think it's 90%. A bit less than that.

re: Aren't Belts Supposed to Go Around Your Waist?

I disagree, the Rock treats that belt like a piece of trash. He drags it in his hand and throws it in the ring and flop it over his arm in his intro, the whole 9. I mean titles are just gimmicks anyway, so why treat them like royalty. When in reality they are sitting on Vince Mac & Cheese's office table as a paperweight. I use to have those same thoughts as Kyo with Boxing. Until I saw Marcos Barrera's manager throw the title at him and let fall to the floor. It just laid on the ring floor while they interviewed him. Besides I can have the same wrestling title for just $150.00, so what's so important about it?

re: Aren't Belts Supposed to Go Around Your Waist?

How are the Titles just gimmicks now? There's only 2 Tag-Team Titles, 2 World Heavyweight Belts, and Lightweight and Womens

I'd agree on the Hardcore belt being a gimmick...but all the other belts were there for a reason. Mid-Cards don't have a damn thing to work for now all due to Eric Bischoff

Now no one can wear a belt around their waist

re: Aren't Belts Supposed to Go Around Your Waist?

All titles are gimmicks now. With the Hardcore title it was a gimmick in a different sense by it being named after a match type which was redundant and stupid. With the other titles it's the merging, and lack of respect for the title history and the tradition that makes it's a gimmick. It all started with that (actually before) 1997 incident at Survivor Series. That kinda set the catalyst of titles as just a market for a push instead of being an honor to the best wrestler. Even though titles had been disrespected before hand, it still never lost it's sense of pride, now the WWE Title can be upcarded by a regular match. So the element of having a title doesn't even guarantee a push. I do think titles belong in wrestling, but people still look at them as prestigious honors, when really it's just a strap with very little meaning. In reality it has always been a gimmick, but at least on T. V it seemed like the champ was the hottest Commodity. Now it has flipped the script, the title is just a strap you carry to the ring. Put it like this, the Hot commodity in wrestling right now isn't Kurt Anal, it's Cock Lestnar.

re: Aren't Belts Supposed to Go Around Your Waist?

Well True, but now I'm starting to think by only having one title, that the WWE are trying to recreate that meaning, putting that prestigious honor back in their titles...but then again, I remember the controversy surrounding the return of the wCw Heavyweight belt when it came back, and how guys like HHH carried it for so long due to politics and not on "who's big at the moment">.<

I dunno, my head hurts, WWE Titles are a crock, and that play on every wrestler's name thing you're doing is starting to get annoying now

You should have told me before I started to make a habbit of it on the JBI forum. By the way don't decide to go retro looking on the JBI forum, and click on my humor page. I got about a hundred Jerichoisms (That's the name ripping thing I do) on that thread alone. But if it is realy annoying you I'll try to stop, but it's like a second nature thing now. I even call them by their Jericoism names.

re: Aren't Belts Supposed to Go Around Your Waist?

I like when someone has two titles, and instead of having one on the waist and one on the shoulder, or one on each shoulder, they have one on the waist and one on the chest... Anyhoo, I agree with Wholly wood about the titles. Nuthin' but gimmicks. But, I do think that the respect level is kinda rising, at least for the WCW title. Big Show holding the WWE title made it worthless all over again...

I've almost never seen the Hardcore Title literally around someone's waste ever since the title was introduced.

re: Aren't Belts Supposed to Go Around Your Waist?

I seen paper champs carry the belt around like they don't care. But, I seen matches where winning it was a big deal. (HBK and dreamer come to mind) At one time, I had more respect for the IC title than I did the heavyweight title. If they are gonna use all these dumb titles (like 2 tag team belts) they should have a different federation...

(ecw will be back)

Mankind did. He treated the belt like a gold medal.

And Undertaker never wore the belt on his waist! He wore it on his neck!

I always would laugh when the dog faced gremlin would wear the belt around his neck. On him, it looked hilarious...

re: Aren't Belts Supposed to Go Around Your Waist?

I feel belts are losing their popularity because it just doesnt seem realistic anymore. I mean, lets be serious. How can little guys like Angle and Benoit be fighting for the most prestigious honor in the WWE, when you have these mammoths like Lesnar or the Big Show just sitting on the sidelines? And then there is the whole idea of the two different shows competing with each other. I mean, a belt just doesnt seem very important anymore when you watch a tag team championship match twice in one night, now does it?
As for the wrestlers mistreating the title, I think they all have great respect for the titles, but just act like they dont care as part of their "hardcore" images. But many still do care, I can still remember the first time Angle won the title, or Mankind. I dont know, anyone agree here?

Lets not forget the first time Angle won the belt! He praised the thing with everyone in the ring with him.
