I bought this game when it came out 8 or so years ago, and I only played it briefly. I've recently been bored and I started playing again, and I love it.

My question is - how do you "unlock" new classes? For example, I want some of my men to become knights, but the option to become a knight isn't there. It's not even blacked out, it's just not there. Do I need to own the equipment for a knight first? I thought you could just buy the equipment when you choose to change their class.

To be able to buy the equipment at the change class screen, you have to either have purchased it in a store first or found it from the ground or an enemy. Some items necessary for changing class are unique, like the valiant mantle for black knights which you can only acquire in battle. Or like the sword of tiamat/pure white dress which require long quests to access the dragoon and princess respectively.

So to clairfy, you need to "unlock" the classes by finding a baldr sword/kite shield etc. for a knight, and so on.
