WTF?! Blizzard you suck!

To be fair, Starcraft, despite its age is still awesome to play, which cannot be said for the other games. Sure, most of them are quite legendary as well, but none beat the raw awesomeness that is starcraft, you can't blame Blizzard for wanting to make the sequel even more awesome. If that requires time, well then, so be it.

You make a good point. I was looking foward to it, but then just wanted them to cancel the dang thing. Was taking WAY to long.

Adding more units without destroying balance is exactly what Brood Wars did. I'm sure a few more wouldn't have hurt.

Anyway, what I'm complaining about is how units have seemingly vanished for no good reason. I'm a little unsure of what's missing, but if I remember correctly...

Firebats. Everyone loved burning things with fire, surely? But I believe they're gone and replaced with the jump jet pistol guys. How does that make sense? Removing an extremely short ranged splash damage unit with an insanely mobile and fast hitting non splash damage unit?

Dragoons. Replaced by the strange versions with the hardened plasma shields. Fine, but why can't we keep the old ones too? I'm sure the Protoss would never simply upgrade ALL of their dragoon mechs.

I'm sure there was more... Oh yes, why would Nydus canals, which instantaneously teleport units by weird and unknown means be replaced by Nydus worms? A worm is going to be better than some kind of organic teleporter? I think not. Why would the Zerg make that change?


If there are none of the "explore a base/ship with a very limited number of units and no reinforcements" missions in SC2, I will be less than amused. I thought those were the best part of the game.

Ah, not true. Firebats might suck in huge battles with massed units, because they die so quickly. But that only really applies to multiplayer. I always preferred the single player campaigns since it was more about micromanagement.

A terran bunker filled with firebats will completely rape any close combat units that attack it. That includes protoss zealots.

If dragoons are gone, then what the hell are the Protoss going to do for anti-air? I never thought they were that amazing against air units, anyway. Surely goliaths are nastier with those rapid firing missiles? Ah, but let me guess, are goliaths gone too?

As for the Nydus worms, I wasn't aware they were mobile. The demo video only showed the worm moving once to create a link, so I thought it was just the equivalent to the second nydus gate opening. So fair enough.

But for the dragoons, for instance... Why would the Protoss have gotten rid of them? That's my point. They're hardly going to have sat down in a meeting and said
"Oh wow, our Dragoons are too powerful against air units for their tier. How can we stop being unfair to our enemies? Oh ok, let's remodel them into something completely different."

At least I suppose the Terrans might have realised firebats always get killed if they're not in a bunker, so decided to stop sacrificing their soldiers.

But yeah, I don't like the idea of keeping balance by creating plotholes. Imagine if the zerg suddenly got rid of zerglings to prevent the problem of zerg rushing creating an unbalanced early game. Ok, fine. More fair gameplay in multiplayer, but a huge giant plothole. The zerg would never do that.

I'm worried at how many of the old units I didn't see in the demo videos. They'd better not have removed too many. Does anyone have details on this? Primarily... Removing Ghosts would be unforgivable. I didn't see any of those...

By the way, is it just me... or is that flying Protoss ring shaped ship pretty much exactly like the Scrin motherships from Command and Conquer 3?

Keeping all the units would be a waste of time and money. I don't want to pay 180 $ for the same damn game.

Blizzard should go ahead and take all the time it needs to create a game that throws completely new units into the fray which creates the need to create completely new strategies. Strategies that will take years to fully develop.. same as SCI.

Just from the changes that have already been released (just as the starting worker count), blizzard already intends to drastically alter the game - and it's for the better! Players need to be thrown into a different scenario. The core of starcraft is still there, but friends, good games change. That's why I'm not a fan of Halo.. and God of War.. and all those american classics that offer the same game.. over and over again..

Every single multiplayer game I have EVER played on battle.net has consisted of some turd rushing me with a thousand zerglings or marines. They NEVER use anything resembling micromanagement. Just millions and millions of damn first tier units.

I myself do prefer to micromanage. But it never works against rushes unless you have enough time to prepare. Once I did have time to prepare. I built such an awesome defence that I beat not one but TWO zerg players at once. (It was a team game. My teammate lagged out, leaving me alone, so the enemy gave me a bit of time to prepare to make things fairer). I built a crapload of photon towers, barricaded the actual outsides of the towers with zealots, so that no zergling could touch the towers. Put an arbiter overhead, making the barrier zealots INVISIBLE. Behind the photons were reavers to deal with the zergling swarms. Invisible reavers. Admit it, this is genius. Some carriers and scouts were hanging out overhead along with a couple of spare arbiters and observers, just in case. One player zergling rushed continuously, and couldn't get past my defences. Despite it being one of those maps with nearly infinite money, he still ran out of cash, and was helpless. So he was beaten. The other player sent huge swarms of Guardians. Imagine the look on his face when I maelstromed the entire guardian fleet and proceeded to mind control several of them and psionic storm all the others TO HELL. So yeah, he ran out of money too building that lot.
Owned. But before I could wipe out their actual bases, my internet connection cut out on me. No swearword was good enough. I'd basically lost not a single unit.


As for this innovation of new units issue, sure we came up with lots of new units in world war 2. So what? Back then the only half decent weapon against an aircraft was either another aircraft or an AA gun. Which wasn't, generally speaking, mounted on a vehicle. It doesn't compare to the Dragoon issue.

What the Protoss are doing is converting a versatile unit into something with an even more fixed role. I just can't see why they'd entirely remove the anti-air capability.

I mean, most Protoss units suck against air targets already unless they have their own air forces. They are idiots. If they were really intending to innovate new stuff, they should have attached Terran Gauss Impalers
to their zealots. Now that would have been a good unit. Plasma shielding, ONE Psi blade, and a gauss impaler rifle on the other arm. Then zealots would be able to obliterate Battlecruisers just like a bunch of marines can. With the advantage of plasma shielding.

Or why not, say... make the scarab capacity of the Reaver smaller, and put a photon turret on its back? It's big enough.
Or put direct fire weaponry on a carrier, remove the interceptors, and call it a protoss battlecruiser?

Then again I suppose we can do that kind of thing with the unit creator tools. I never got the hang of that with StarEdit though.

Playing SC? I've played plenty.

Playing Broodwar? Also plenty.

Playing multiplayer? Less so. My internet connection is complete crap so connecting on battle.net is a huge pain. And I got fed up of the damn rushing noob turdlets. And hacking cheats. I played a guy and he somehow stacked photon towers. How the hell do you do that?
