Does the Manga Trump your opinion?

Alot of times we get into debates about things such as:

"Was this guy stronger than such and such"

"What level of SSJ was such and such"

You get the point, i'm sure there are more instances than those 2 but they are prime.

That being said, who here truly believe their own opinion and theories hold more stock than the manga?

Honesty is key here, if you believe your opinion and logic holds more weight than the Manga explain why you think so.

This does not concern the Anime as in some cases it differs greatly from the Manga.

A particular subject I would love to get opinions on is Gohan's SSJ transformations after the World Tournement.

Now alot of people would say: "Everyone said Dabura was stronger than Cell or at least rivals him, so Gohan must be SSJ2.

Now that is a prime example of opinion. But if you go by the Manga and what is drawn, you would see that he is plain SSJ. Now I think Dabura was toying with him, but to what degree I have no idea. That is in the realm of "opinions" and "fan logic".

What I do know is Gohan is not drawn with an SSJ2 Aura and nobody bothers to say anything on the order of "Gohan is fighting at a level beyond Super Saiyan". There is more evidence against it then for it.

Now on the flipside. People would say "Going by the Manga, Base Vegetto is weaker than Gohan-Absorbed Buu". This is not stated in the Manga but it is a good opinion that holds weight as far as I see it.

What is your take on these situations?

Your option is making Goku's comment about a suppressed version of Cell, or making Gohan a SSJ2...

But your throwing away evidence that would lean toward Gohan being SSJ. The way he was drawn SSJ after the start of the WT was with 1 bang only. Everyone knows that his drawing style changed greatly after the WT started. Compare him to "Gohan fighting bank robbers SSJ" and also "Gohan training with Goten SSJ". His hair looks entirely different. And when Gohan got angry watch Videl get owned he only had one bang but we would all agree he is just SSJ, as you saw how powerful his SSJ2 transformation was for Kibito.

So we have a Gohan that is drawn differntly and ALSO no SSJ2 Aura.

Evidence against it is purely how you "interpret" the info. You cannot "misinterpret" a clearly defined way of drawing something that has alot of presence in this Saga, SSJ2's that is.

But you have to work with what you have.

The artwork CLEARLY indicates that Gohan was a Super Saiyan. This cannot be challenged. At all.

The writing, on the otherhand, indicates that he WAS Super Saiyan 2 after the Budokai at some point. It's not just the Dabra comparison to Cell, either. Kaioshin states (I know most don't like Kaioshin, but it's too straightforward to ignore) Gohan>Budokai Gohan after they briefly fought with fat man, and we know he was a Super Saiyan 2 at the Budokai.

Personally, I don't know what Gohan truly is, nor do any of us. I could go with either camp on this one.

It was actually on his homeworld. He stated that Kibito never had a chance to see Gohan's unbelievable power. If you believe Gohan was a Super Saiyan, then, yeah, ignore it.

Ohh yeah that's right. I'm just gonna have to go with retcon on that one like P does.

^I don't think either of those is very likely. Why do you choose that particular logic?

Dabura was not toying with Gohan, he's been ordered to beat down Gohan to take energy for the ball.

Dabura's power revolves around Gohan and that's it. There was no suppression, he did no power ups against Fat Buu, etc.

Gohan = SSJ1..Dabura get's one shotted by Full Power Perfect Cell, and likely would get pwned handily by the supression level Cell was beating up MSSJ Gohan at.

Gohan = SSJ2....Dabura is potentially around Super Perfect Cell level.

So your in the "my opinion/logic trumps the manga" group?

Here's your two options.

Gohan was retconned to a Ssj, and Goku is talking about Powered Up Cell

Or

Gohan was a Ssj2 against Dabura, and Goku is talking rage boost.


Those are your only two options nowadays...
