Link's not a fairy. Navi's a fairy. Tatl's a fairy. Those pink, glowing orbs with wings are fairies. Link is a Hylian, and has a blank slate for a personality. Like every silent protagonist, he is supposed to be your avatar, where you project your own self onto him. He's only a "fairy", as it were, if you yourself can relate to that. And if you do, then all the power to you.

Of course, given that Link leaves both Hyrule and Termina, and never actually returns, as the legend in wind Waker states, I think it's evident that Link, in fact, ended up with no one at all. Hell, maybe he ascended into godhood.

Given the time period, highly unlikely. But, it is within the realm of his ability to traverse time, so you never know.

Also, keep in mind that this is Hyrule, and not Earth. Human, or should I say 'Hylian', civilization would advance at a much different rate and in a much different way, especially considering the existence of magic and various other sentient races, both ancient (Sheikah) and future (Rito). It would be interesting to see the future past the Wind Waker era.
