Help me like this game

Can someone help me figure out how to enjoy Majora's Mask? I just tried to give MM a second try. I get so frustrated when time goes by so fast and I'm trying to find the stupid little kids to get the code to the hideout. And when I get to this point, 1/6 of 3 days is finished, and I say screw it. Can someone give me a synopsis of how this game is played properly? Should I just keep trying and it'll all come together somehow? And discuss saving my file. Thank you.

re: Help me like this game

You actually have a surprising amount of time to make preparations to retrieving the ocarina, since you can't even enter the clock tower until the final countdown begins at the end of the final day.

Bomber kids? Finding them is easy, it's catching them when they run off that's the problem. Using Deku Link's A spin attack seems to work nice, but a lot of it is down to basically cornering them so they don't have anywhere to run. If you're struggling to find them - 2 are in the area where you start the challenge, 2 are in East Clocktown and the last one is in West Clocktown. One of them in East Clocktown is on the roof of the inn, so you'll have to use the Deku Launcher to reach him.

Afterwards the rest is really easy. Go past the bomb kid by giving the code, use the telescope, grab the moon tear, trade it for the title deed and then wait for the end of the last day. Go in the Clock Tower, hit Skull Kid with a bubble, grab the ocarina and then play the Song of Time to return to dawn of the first day.

Regarding saving, permanent saves are done by playing the song of time. Whenever you travel back to the beginning of the time period you get to save. You also have a bunch of owl statues around the place that you can activate with your sword and do a temp save.

Incidentally, once you have the ocarina try playing the song of time backwards if you want more time to play with.

That help?

I think this does help. So, the first three days is only the beginning and then you get to start a new three days?

its actually really fun once you know how it works and another thing once you get the ocarina and are normal go to the shop and pull out your ocarina in front of the scarecrow and make up a song. When he asks if you want to learn a mysterious song that lets you manipulate time say yes. If you play the song of time backwards you can slow the flow of time to give your self more time if your in temples or whatever. You can also advance 12 hours ahead if you play each note twice in a row.

re: Help me like this game

Ok, I think I may be starting to understand how this works. I will give this game a third try this evening. Thank you, Insanity and GroundShaker.

I look forward to being active here, it seems like a nice place.

Help me like this game

You're welcome.

In essence, management of the time you have is an important element in Majora's Mask. You have an infinite amount of time really; you just have to play the song of time whenever you're closing in on the day limit to give yourself another three days.

The thing about this though is that many things basically "reset" when you do that. Link will keep all key items and masks he's collected, owl statues remain active, cleared temples will have warps to the boss rooms and all songs will still have their effects. However, Link's 'ammo' supplies will drop to zero, puzzles will reset and all sidequests and events will reset. You also lose any rupees you were carrying, although this is where the Clock Town bank comes into play. While it makes no logical sense at all, you can deposit rupees in the bank and they will stay there even when you go back in time.

While this sounds bad it really isn't. Those owl statues are located in convenient places, allowing you to skip about the place without having to redo entire events, and the temples are generally doable within a three day time frame. Take that as advice though - try to go into a temple with most of the three day limit remaining. You don't want to run out of time partway through, else you'll have to redo most of the dungeon again as it'll reset.

Compared to other Zelda titles this will probably feel a little disjointed, as you find yourself tackling the game in individual segments to make full use of time remaining before the next time reset.

re: Help me like this game

I find that the game has like 2 parts to it. Theres the temple part and theres the collecting masks part seeming as how for most masks you have to do something at a certain time and some masks you use to get other masks. Most masks only have one use but some come in very handy even thought they are not transformation mask they still have special abilities.

I did it! I got to the point where I could save. Can't wait to experience the rest of this continuation of Ocarina of Time.

re: Help me like this game

Congratulations, I hope you enjoy the rest of the game. Some important points to remember, playing the song of time backwards slows down the flow of time, giving you more time until the world ends, so it's something you'll generally want to be doing alot. A remember you can save using the owl statues, it makes the game alot easier, but it's only a temporary save, so when you reload you have to save again, if you just turn it off you won't be able to reload from that owl statue again.
