C++ - Don't know what the compiler is saying

Ok, I'm having to use the GNU compiler (or is it called g++?) , which from what I've used and heard is not very good. It has worked out well enough but now I am completely lost as to what it is telling me.

I do not know much of C++; however, by the nature of the error, there is a symbol in the file you are trying to read that cannot be processed. Check first the character value chart for C++ and check your file or any character not present in the chart. If that doesn't solve the problem, you'd have to check your code. It would be pretty much appreciated if you could document it appropriately and place it under [code] tags for those effects.

Windows gives much nicer error messages using g++.

undefined reference to `AllEmp(std::string, int, double)'

It pretty much means that it can't find the function that goes with the prototypes you defined. Since you defined the prototypes as

void AllEmp(string, int, double);

it is looking for functions with the same name and arguments but it can't find them because the functions you do have take arrays and not single values.

void AllEmp(string name[SIZE], int hours[SIZE], double gross[SIZE])

So you need to change the prototypes to want an array of strings, an array of ints, and an array of doubles.

Another issue is with the lines

and

you are passing the 20th member of the array and not the array itself.

Thank you so much Dark Reaper. That clears up pretty much everything. The only problem now is passing the array itself. I changed the way I did it to this for each of them:

FileToArrays(emp[], hrs[], pay[]);

Now, the compiler tells me I have a "parse error before `]' token" Do you happen to have any idea as to why that is?

I also tried it without the brackets:

FileToArrays(emp, hrs, pay);

Which was really just a shot in the dark, yet that compiled but when I ran it it just said "Segmentation Fault".

So, am I just going about this the wrong way?

That is the right way to do it.

I made the following changes only and it compiled fine.

I don't have the files its trying to open though, so I get those errors and the three arrays are filled with garbage.

Thanks for everything. I was having a 'Segmentation Fault'. I tried pretty much everything from creating new files to simply making the array small declaring it all myself and every time I got the SegFault error.

It turned out where I had:

FromFile.close();

My problem was the equal sign. Just had to delete three equal signs and I would have saved three hours of working.
