It's been five years since the release of Stronghold Crusader Extreme, over ten years since the release of Stronghold Crusader itself. It's back. Firefly Studios has announced that they would be unveiling Stronghold Crusader 2 at E3 this year, with screenshots and an announcement trailer shortly to follow. Self-published by Firefly for PC, Stronghold Crusader 2 will be available in Q4 of 2013, though the team will require a crowdfunding push to make it happen later this year.
Nick Tannahill, Marketing Manager at Firefly Studios, made the following statement:
"The Stronghold series has been a huge success. Since the launch of the first game more than 6 million Stronghold games have been sold and it’s all thanks to the fans, many of whom have been with us from the very start. We can’t wait to show people what we’ve been working on and will do just that with our E3 reveal. I’m happy to announce that we will also be launching the full Crusader 2 website on June 11th, which will feature the game’s first trailer, artwork and more."
Firefly hasn't just been sitting on its laurels these past ten years. They've release two full sequels to the original Stronghold title, along with HD updates of both Stronghold and Stronghold Crusader. Not to mention a couple spin-off Stronghold games and other side-projects too. However, it looks like the team it looking to give the epic gameplay of Stronghold Crusader another try.
Hopefully fans will be excited too. Due to Firefly's goal of self-publishing Stronghold Crusader 2, they'll be launching a crowdfunding project through Gambitious later this year to that extra bit of cash to get the game on everyone's doorstep. It's unclear how much Firefly will be asking for, or what will happen if they don't meet their goal, but there's more time for questions like that later.
Stronghold Crusader 2 will be coming to PC in Q4 later this year. Expect more news and impressions when the game is fully unveiled at E3 this coming week, followed by plenty of assets released to the public.
