Classic Gaming Forum Rules and Acceptable EtiquetteIn order to make the Classic Gaming Forum a pleasant place to post, some rules must be in place. If there are any questions, please PM Feisar. Rules List:1: Abide by Neoseeker Forum Rules
For a full list of rules click here. All members must follow these rules, and punishments will be enforced to those who feel the need to continuously break them.
2: Stay on topic
Off topic discussions are not tolerated, except in the General Discussion threads. Do NOT spam in the General Discussions. If there is too much off-topic discussion in the classic gaming threads, the particular thread in question will be closed, and moderator approval will be needed to restart the thread.
3: Regarding ROMs and emulators:
Discussion of ROMs and emulators is allowed, however, you are not allowed to post links or hints, etc., on how or where to get ROMs and emulators.
4: Duplicate Threads
Duplicate threads are really what the title says. Threads that are newly created, that have already been created in the past. These are allowed to a certain state, if they are not within the first five pages or so, by all means, create another, but once we have too many of the same thread, if you make a new one, it will be deleted. The moderator on duty will decide whether your thread stays or is deleted. Use the search function to find the thread you want before creating a new one.
5: Don't double-post
If you have something else to add, use the 'edit' function at the bottom of your post. Should you double post, your post will either be deleted or merged with your previous post. Should you continue to break this rule, sanctions will be handed out.
6: Classic Gaming Consoles
There is a lot of confusion as to which games that someone can post about, and which consoles. You can post about any console up to the Sega Dreamcast. Gamecube, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Wii etc. are all not allowed to be posted about. If you post about a new generation console or game outside of the General Discussion, your post will be deleted/your thread will be closed.
7: No Advertising
You are not allowed to advertise any third-party website or item. By this, we mean do not post something like this:
quote Example
This is not tolerated, and will result in a ban. If you advertise, your post/thread will be deleted. So, what is allowed? If you wish to provide information to another member, you are allowed to post a simple link to an external webpage, nothing more, just as long as it isn't advertising anything, it's fine.
8: No Flaming
9: No Spamming
Spamming is where a member posts something random and completely off-topic in a discussion. This isn't allowed anywhere in the forum, and definitely not in the General Discussion. One word posts are also considered spam. If you have nothing worthwhile to post, don't post at all. Spamming can be dealt with in a number of different manners. One word posts will be deleted, and you will be PM notified. Posts that are not understandable will be deleted or rectified, depending on the situation.
10: 'General' Threads
Lately, there have been a lot of 'General' threads being made. For example, 'General Touhou Project'. It has been decided that this should no longer be in place. If you wish to make a thread about a single game, do NOT include 'General' in the thread title. If you do, 'General' will be removed. If you are to do it again, you will be dealt with appropriately for failing to adhere by forum rules. However, if you are starting a thread for a Series of games, 'General' is allowed, to a certain extent. Make sure to use the thread search function to see if the game you wish to talk about has already been posted.
11: Bumping
Bumping a thread is an act where you post in an old thread, and it will appear at the top of the forum. Bumps are definitely allowed, and encouraged! However, if you wish to bump a thread, do not just post "BUMP!", because it is counted as spam, and your post will be deleted, which also means that thread will be bumped back to the back pages of the forum. If you do wish to bump a thread, make sure you have something to say about it's topic. Duplicate threads can be a problem if there are about ten threads on one game. Here in CG, we encourage bumping threads. But please try to bump the thread with the most amount of pages. Should you make another thread about that game, and the moderator sees more of those threads in the index, your thread will be deleted and you will be directed to another thread.
12: Requesting Closure
Requesting closure is where a member will ask for their particular thread. This is perfectly fine in cases, and shouldn't be used in others:
The moderator on duty will decide whether to close the thread on request. Feisar: I'll probably close it if I see it needs to be anyway.
Here is an unacceptable case for requesting closure: *Member* has created a thread discussing a particular idea of theirs (for example, a Classic Gaming NeoWiki). *Member* soon realises that, for example, their idea will not be put into place. *Member* requests closure. This thread will stay open, as it still has discussion value.
So, summing up this rule, it is the moderator's decision whether to close a thread upon request or not, but now you know the basics. Note that failure to adhere to this rule constantly will have you being punished.
13: General Discussions Closures and Deletions:
General Discussions in this forum are both On and Off topic threads. Enjoy them responsibly. After a GD reaches 30 pages it will be closed. After three days, the thread will be deleted, so don't be surprised if your post count drops if you've posted in them. The reasoning behind this is because of off topic discussion.
So, those are the rules. Make sure to abide by them If you have anything you wish for me to add, or questions, visit the Requests, Feedback and Suggestions ThreadMake sure to have fun! And enjoy Classic Gaming.Edit: May 30, 10
