Well I'm looking for the title of a book that I can't remember, it's quite strange if I remember rightly too.

I can not remember much about it, so sorry being vague. It's a fictional novel set in the second World War about a group of historians who visit Germany to find relics or w/e. What is actually happening, is the leader of the group, the professor, is using it as an alibi to help free Jews from the camps. In one of the ways he does this is by dressing up as a scarecrow, which he ends up being shot at accidentally. From this, his group find out his game, join him and all work together. The somewhat main character in the story, the apprentice almost, falls in love and the group end up trying to save the girls father and blah blah. At the end of the book, as everyone escapes, the main character is caught and is to be shot by the antagonist of the story but disapears as they turn their backs. That's how it ends, or as far as I know.

There is also a film based on it, in which the main character is the director as well(if I remember rightly).

If anyone could tell me this book or tell me anyway finding out it's name I'd be very greatful.

Actually, I do have an old favourite from my childhood that I want to find. I can't remember the title or the author, but I do remember that it was about two children. They were in the same year at school, and were both outsiders. The girl, whose isn't getting on with her mother and stepfather, has started hiding out in an old abandoned house nearby. The boy follows her one day, and they end up sharing it. They find money under one of the floorboards, and at first, she tries using it to become popular. But then the adults get suspicious about where the money came from, and start asking awkward questions, so the two children decide to run away.

I remember that at one point they hid in a museum overnight, and that they claimed to be brother and sister, which was a little tricky, since he was black and she was white, so they agreed to call him her foster brother. I also remember that she used the name Beverly (or possibly Bethany) as a disguise, although I can't remember any other names from the book.

Anyone got any idea?
