I also think Stephen King is a genius, and very under-rated just because he is mainly seen as a horror- writer. But he has some extraordinary books which , if would have been written by other known writers without any connection to horror-genre, would have been considered masterpieces of world-literature.

I just bought the first 4 books from the Dark Tower series as ebooks, starting on the first one now.

Yes, I read Under the Dome, although I was a bit disappointed at the ending...really the final reveal of what was actually causing the dome (I won't spoil it here, though). Still, it was a good book and a great study of the pressure isolation would have on a small town. Worth a read.

King has often said that he likes to write about the things that scare him. If his thoughts often tend to run toward the supernatural or macabre...well, that's just what he does. Also, it's not unusual at all for an author to set his stories in the region he is most familiar with, and Maine has long been King's setting of choice. He is a lifelong Maine yankee, after all. But in recent years he's been living in Florida, so many of his recent short stories and novels have been set there. I particularly enjoyed Duma Key, and some of the Florida-set short stories from Just After Sunset. The story A Very Tight Place in particular has to be one of the most disgusting pieces of work I've ever read; no monsters, nor anything supernatural about it, but it's one of the most horrifying situations I could ever imagine being in.

under the dome is one of his best books, I've read them all.

I have to catch up on King. I read pretty much everything from his first books in the seventies through the Backman books and went all the way up to about 1999. He is definitely my favorite modern author, and I know there are more than 10 books of his from the new millennium I still have to read. I am slating them as next on my to-read list.

Is the Regulators a good book? I'd like to feel the same sensation that I felt reading Desperation.
