Recommended Reading!

A thread to ask for recommendations for good books based on your own taste in books, and one to recommend good books to other people!

I'm presently looking for a few good books myself. I want to read the last Series of Unfortunate Events book, and Jennifer Government, but after those I'm not sure what I should read. I loved Blink by Malcolm Gladwell, and I'm a fan of both fiction (mostly fantasy/sci-fi, surprise there right? ) and non-fiction.

Gex, try Scott Lynch-The Lies of Locke Lamora, red seas under red skies. Stories about a thief, his crew and what happens when things go badly wrong in a fantasy world. Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn trilogy (only read the first one but that was good) Guy Gavriel Kay-Song of Arbonne, Lions of Al-Rassan, Tigana. Stories about an analogue of Europe with a light touch of magic.

Best of the best modern classics? Way I see it, there about a hundred billion books ever written, I shouldn't start with the first book I see, read the best first, see how far you get before you die.

Read Catcher, Mocking Bird, reading 1984. Animal Farm's on my list. What're the books you just can't miss?

Just about anything by George Orwell is worth reading. Animal Farm was great, as was 1984, and some of his less-known books are interesting as well. The undertones in his books are not-so-subtle but at least his agenda is obvious.
