You do have to remember that the books aren't designed to be adult books and they're aimed at tweens and teenagers. They're a far better alternative to Twilight with a clever plot, realistic and in depth characters and an interesting setting and back story. I didn't think the writing was all that bad, although I did make my mum read one when she was bored and she said the same thing about the writing. I don't think it's for everybody.

Having read Twilight and hating most of it, I'd have to disagree with you, Celes Leonhart, on some points. I'm no expert at this kind of thing but I do find The Hunger Games to be much better. At least stuff actually happens in The Hunger Games. Meyer couldn't write to save her live and she constantly used the same adjectives throughout. One thing that's definitely noticeable is that Meyer cannot describe characters for shit but Collins is able to easily.

I don't think Collins directly ripped this idea off of Battle Royale. I've not read the series personally but I know the overall plot and I'd say it's not the most original thing in the world. The problem is, there's only so many ideas out there and eventually they're going to be repeated but in different ways. Lord of the Flies had children killing each other in it but nobody mentions that. Have you ever heard the theory that there are actually only 7 (I think it's 7) plots and every story's plot can be boiled down to it? You should look that up actually, not because I'm making a point but because it's super interesting.

I'm not really going to argue with you about the characters. I know what I'm trying to say but I'm struggling to actually say it. There's a huge difference between the Twilight characters and THG characters. For example, Bella's huge sacrifice is that she moves to Forks and it sucks balls. Except she chose to move there and she still whines and complains about it throughout the first book. Katniss risks her life to save her sister and doesn't complain and instead makes the best of a bad situation. It's a huge difference. One character depends on a sexist, controlling hot vampire and a sexy, violent vampire to save her whilst she waves her arms around, looks pathetic and considers how hot they both are and which should she shag first whereas the other is independent and strong and is ready to fight her own battles as well as the battles of others. Can't you see that THG provides far better role models for children?

As for the start of the book, it was slow starting and she could have cut it down a little but then I think you'd lose some of the suspense and anticipation that builds up when the games begin.
