Currently Reading Ch.6 - Page 2

Finished Polla's "The Omnivore's Dilemma." Kind of a self-serving read, in my opinion. The guy wasn't specifically trying to make industrial eaters feel bad, but he kind of succeeded in doing so anyway. I also think he came off looking foolish with his food preparation escapades and (dare I say it) a tad effeminate, but the book has a place in our society and I can appreciate what he was trying to do with it.

Currently working on the short "How to Lie with Statistics" by Darrell Huff. It's about 120 pages, should have it done by the weekend (if all goes well).

Recently read The Great Gatsby by Fitzgerald and The Alchemist by Paolo Coelho. They were both a bit meh.

Currently reading Crime & Punishment by Dostoyevsky, really enjoying it so far.

Me & My friend decided we needed a new summer read. So I went to the bookstore and after spending 3 hours in there I found 'The Hickory Staff'. It's a pretty awesome fantasy novel, and is one of those 'portal' genres, where someone from our world gets sucked into some other random world. I knew this concept existed but had never picked up a book like it to read, it's turning out to be an awesome book.

A little bonus is that it's a trilogy, and all 3 are already released ! No waiting for me!

"Michelangelo and the Pope's Ceiling" - Ross King

I'm still working my way through this, but I finished Jitterbug Perfume (highly recommended) just a few minutes ago, and tomorrow I'm either going to start No Country for Old Men or Blindness.

Think I'm going to start on the second book in Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series; New Moon. Finished Twilight the other day and I was surprised by how much I liked it.

I've borrowed the rest of the series from a friend and looking forward to starting on New Moon

"Working" is an excellent book by Studs Terkel. He interviews people in various lines of work (trash collectors, waitresses, public works administrators, etc.) to see if they really enjoy what they do and the life they've chosen. He presents it in a narrative form, without the questions intermixed into the prose. It's really eye-opening, but I'd have to go with Zinn in terms of quality. As the famous line in Good Will Hunting goes, that book "will knock you on your ass."

I'm reading the less groundbreaking Michael Crichton at the moment, State of Fear. Not a bad book, just kind of shallow in terms of its treatment of climate issues. It's really just lip service to get to the action, which isn't that bad. I'm just not a big Crichton guy.
