The character guide at the front is a huge help if you feel a bit overwhelmed with the characters to be honest. Good to hear you enjoyed it Curt, I love the Seguleh, when Envy was travelling with them and Toc and Tool, was brilliant

Haha Curt I was in the bookshop last week and was looking all around Erikson for Esslemonts Crimson Guard book and was like "ffs where is it" when I noticed a big hardback book with Dust of Dreams written on it.

Needless to say I bought it

It's bloody huge.

Ok, read DoD finally and while I enjoyed it a lot, I'm still wondering where the hell this series is going.
The Malazan marines are still the most bad ass army ever though

Cliffhanger ending from hell btw due to this and the next one being basically one book. Can't wait for the last one now.

I'll say nothing other than much nastier stuff lies ahead Mish, damn you haven't even met Karsa Orlong yet. BTW, for anyone who reads and enjoys this series I strongly recomend Joe Abercrombie-The Blade Itself and subsequent books, I'm enjoying the first one a lot.

I no longer check this thread because I've given up on the series after finishing Deadhouse Gates. It took me so long to read, but not because of its size (big books aren't a problem with me). I wanted to like it, but I just didn't really. I struggled through the first book, without really understanding that much of what was happening for a good while. Then I made myself carry on with the series because of all the good things I hear about it, including from you guys.

I don't really know why I didn't like it, but one thing I found was that it was incredibly difficult to get under the skin of any of the characters.

Once I start a book I feel I am compelled to finish it, so I doubt I'll be picking up Memories of Ice any time soon. I don't want to put myself through that again.
