Too broke to buy it, and haven't come across 'Hounds' in the library yet, so I'm mad as hell about that. Just reread the first 6 books for pure pleasure, so hopefully when I come across it soon, It'll be fresh in my mind

Try and get halfway through, if you still hate it after that, then maybe it's just not the series for you.

Well the fortress has been driven off, but Moon's spawn and Anomanmder Rake will be back. The other arc about what happens to the remaining High Mages, starts to make more sense now. It's one of those books that might need more than one readthrough though

Just read the first book in the series and was moderately impressed. The series appears to have a writing style which I actually like (unlike quite a few other folks, it seems, they find it too dry) so I'm going to have to go and pick up some more books in this series sooner or later.

But once you get into the characters more, specifically the Bridgeburners, you'll love it I'm sure

Well I finished "Gardens of the Moon" a while ago, and will start reading "Deadhouse Gates" as soon as I finish "A New Spring". You speak of getting into the characters more, but so far I've found it very difficult to really engage or empathise with any of the characters. I think this is because too many are introduced at once in the first book, and not one of them is really identified as the stand out, main character. The point of view also shifts far too frequently which doesn't help when building characters for readers to empathise with. However, I have found Crokus to be one character who's aspects I could identify with.

The action and plot are enough to keep me reading for now. The fact I've heard so much about this series being amazing probably keeps me reading too.

I don't want to get into discussing future books too much because I will inevitably come across spoilers, but I'm sure I saw this "Dust of Dreams" book in a bookstore, isn't it already out?... I definitely saw it on amazon, maybe that's the only place I saw it, and they go on there before their release.

I love the UK covers of this series by the way, brilliant illustrations on most of them.

DoD is out 27th of August according to Amazon mate.
I'm kind of looking forward to the end of the series, when I can read all of them in one continuous stream, I'm sure there are connections I'm missing.

Ohh, the Wickans are former enemies of the Malazans now recruited into the army. The enemies are the local tribes of Seven Cities. There are many of them, and I envy you, the next sequence is quite possibly the most awesome running battle in fantasy literature. Fantastic book, now go read it some more, hehe.

Yeah, that's right man. Battle is too small a word for it, Coltaine, the Wickans and Duiker with some other Malazan forces end up participating in the most long running battle ever. You have some epic death destruction ahead of you Rob, that's probably the most bloodsoaked book of all.
