re: Proof Of Omega

Ha, I just tried it. Poor GIM47N, stuck with all of those flowers and butterflies. I have the newest PS2 with the pop-up lid rather than the one that slides out, and I got it to work. (Not that I didn't believe you Lone about the PS2, but logically I figured it might work since my lid design was different.)

Seems like a waste of time though, tbh I'd rather be pleasantly surprised when it comes up by chance.

re: Proof Of Omega

I've tried popping up the lid before, but only on PS1. It works pretty well. A've never been lucky enough to get it to come up with bosses, though.
And, unfortunately, I think it broke my playstation. XD

re: Proof Of Omega

I don't think it can break your playstation Does it only work when you flip up the lid on the playstation, Or does it take a long time to pop up.?

re: Proof Of Omega

Basically, the disc doesn't spin any more.
Considering that flipping up the lid stops the disc spinning for a while, I think that's the most likely cause.

But, then again, it might not have been that that broke it.

Btw, Meteor, are we correct if we assume your strategy needs some luck as well, not? If he goes for the wrong people at the wrong time, or if the hitpoints go wrong at a certain time, it is game over?
Once you do pop over to Holland, be sure to bring a memory card with that safe before beating Omega Weapon!

The only thing that could possibly depend on real life luck, is Light Pillar. I only did it twice so far, so i don't know for sure. But all other moves, like Terra Break, are survived by 100%.

re: Proof Of Omega

Sorry for the ancient revive, but I have a relevant post to make . I first made this thread to celebrate beating Omega, as is probably obvious, and for anyone else who had to do the same. It was my first time beating him after all.

However, there was a problem with that save. Due to not quite understanding my guide when I was going through the Lunatic Pandora in Laguna's dream, I didn't manage to open all 3 trap doors, and behind 1 of the 2 I left closed was the only Power Generator I can collect in the game using my limited save, the item needed to teach Quistis Ray Bomb.

Not happy with this one flaw in an otherwise more or less perfect limited save, I eventually went back through the game, as I have mentioned in another thread recently. Long story short, I got Ray Bomb and completed my save, but it also meant I would have to defeat Omega Weapon again. I could have just used The End, but I decided to try and beat him again fair and square, partially because last time I used Meltdown, which having considered it since I felt was a bit of a cop-out of my limited-party approach.

Before I continue, I wanna correct a small mistake in my original post. I actually had 2 characters that could junction strength, Zell and Irvine in that case I believe, but only Zell with Ifrit's +20% and +40% could reach a serious strength since I was using Flare to junction, whoever gets the other strength junction can't reach a very high strength.

Anyways, the run. Aside from Ray Bomb, which played no part in this run, my party was pretty much identical to my last save's, with two key differences. Firstly, I wouldn't be using Meltdown to inflict Vit 0, and secondly, this game Angelo had never had the good luck to dig up a Trial Hero, leaving me with just two normal Heros for the fight.

This made things significantly harder, since Vit 0 had in effect doubled my attacking damage, halving the length of the battle. I looked around for some other means to cause the status, but during this game I had found our Quistis' limit break Acid, which I'd previously believed inflicted Vit 0 but didn't have a huge success rate against Omega's resistances (hence my turning to Meltdown) actually deals a somewhat random status effect from a range, meaning I'd be there for years waiting for Vit 0 if I relied on that.

I had already pretty much maximised my offensive strategy in the last run, so since I had no way to shorten the battle, my only chance was to lengthen my survival, and there was only one technique in my arsenal that could offer any meaningful defence against Omega Weapon, which is Invincible Moon. My new strategy would be to draw out my invincibility long enough to make up for the loss of my Hero Trial and Vit 0. It was a promising plan that had only one significant flaw, and that is that Rinoa is a useless dumb bitch.

I'm not a hater, but when you're facing Omega Weapon, the most powerful enemy, period, and out of a maximum HP of several thousand you have less than 10 (I weakened my characters to as few HP as I could to give them the best limit break results, since I lack Aura), I'm not sure what the highest numerical value for emergency factor is, but it must have been somewhere between that and "I just shat myself". Faced with this simply peerless level of threat, what response does our intrepid female lead make?

Angelo Cannon. Angelo Odin-damned Cannon. I'm sorry Rinoa, but that just isn't going to cut it, a move that takes off less than a tenth of a percent of the enemy's HP? Not good enough. I guess I shouldn't be too hard on her though, after all sometimes she did Angelo Strike instead. Stupid dog, and stupid Angelo too...

I am no advocate of violence towards anyone, including women, in real life, but in the end I finally made Squall smack her round the head into unconsciousness with his Gunblade and then revive her with a Phoenix Down, leaving her with significantly more HP, after which she finally started using Invincible Moons and Wishing Stars.

The rest of the battle was pulse-pounding every second but not so exciting to recount in great detail. I had Rinoa there for defence and Zell with his Duel to deal the major damage, and either Squall or Irvine (the above example is from the first time I lost patience with Rinoa) as my third party member, I experimented with both and forget which I had on the run that finally succeeded, but they were basically meant to use their limit breaks and be support fire for Zell. When I finally did win it I was able to pull not one but two Invincible Moons before Omega wiped out my party, save for Zell, who I had had a Hero used on, after which I had to use my second Hero, but in the end I was able to take out Omega Weapon before it wore off. To let you know what that involved, without Vit 0 to increase my damage, Zell's attacks dealt an average of about 1,750 a hit, possibly slightly more, not counting in critical hits, Omega Weapon has 1,161,000 HP. Including the help from his allies while they were around, which wasn't amazing, Irvine's AP ammo did the equivalent of 2 Duel hits worth damage per shot, and I remember Squall worked out to about the same, while Rinoa's contribution's weren't even worth thinking about unless it was Wishing Star, which was worth something like 13 Duel hits, Zell had to land approximately 650 Duel attacks to kill Omega.

Obviously I eventually pulled off, hehehe, so woo, I did it, again, without using Meltdown, I vanquished Omega !

re: Proof Of Omega

Nice read, Fyrestorm. Love your vivid description of your frustration with Rinoa.

I can never motivate myself to complete any kind of challenge on FF8, but well done on your achievement, it wasn't an easy one.

Question time: From what I (re-)read in your first post, you can still use Mug right? If that's the case and I didn't miss anything, you could have stolen a Power Generator from Blitz, without having to start over. -.-

re: Proof Of Omega

If i'm not mistaken, it's Fyrestorms challenge, to beat the game and Omega with only Quezacotl, Shiva and Ifrit, right? In that case, Mug is not available.

Did i understand correctly, that you didn't draw any spells, that cannot be refined with the first 3 GFs, Fyrestorm? Nice challenge indeed, because there sure isn't any easy way, if you use only the first 3 GFs, you could have used Ifrits Strenght Bonus though, but if i'm not mistaken, that's not allowed in your challenge?

Ah yes, that's what I was missing Meteor. ¬¬

And I guess the lack of Str-Bonus might have to do with his third condition (no stat boosting)?
