I like my FFVIII character.

Well, my party consisted of Squall (naturally), Rinoa and Irvine. I personally found Shot more damaging over Dual. With a quick finger, you can do 150,000-200,000. I was never one to slave away at armageddon fist, it's just too long and boring.

I found Squall, Quistis and Zell most useful as a party battle-wise. Quistis could single-hit end normal battles that Squall's Death St-Atk couldn't handle (Degenerator) and serve as a support character in boss battles where Squall and Zell kept abusing Limit Breaks (White Wind, Mighty Guard).

That said, Rinoa's Invincible Moon makes her a good supportive character choice for those who haven't beaten the CC Quest.

I just pick whoever has the lower level to be in my party. In terms of irvine vs zell, I like Irvine more overall. The outfit is awesome since i prefer monochrome over zell's colourful clothes . As for their limit breaks, I havent mastered Zell's yet, and all i have to do for Irvine's is to smash the R1 button the way I smash the square button so that's more fun and some finger exercise there. Zell's flips are definitely cooler though... but who knows, without the trench coat, maybe Irvine can do the same lol.

I found Irvine's intro FMV more interesting than Zell's. I really liked the swatting flies antics, bit I just found Irvine's calm "Bang" imitation with the butterfly resting on his finger really awesome. I knew he was going to turn out to be an interesting character.

Okay, I was disappointed for a long time, often frowning on his womanizing antics for the first disk. But he settled with Selphie, and well... "So this is where what's-her-face lives?" is one of my favourite lines in the game.

Furthermore, he brought the party together at Trabia with his story about their past. He revealed how he had always had a peculiar interest in Selphie, how he noticed Seifer and Squall's rivalry, etc. His reasoning for not firing at Edea was also very interesting. He knew her, he loved her as his 'mother'. He couldn't bring himself to shoot and the pressures had overtaken him. Yet, he fired anyway. He knew there was no more 'mother' in Edea anymore. He knew of the Tyranny that she was plotting.

Call me biased, but that's my honest opinion. I've always liked Irvine more since learning more about the game. Though I admit, at a younger age, Zell was what I saw as "Cool", so he was naturally my favourite. It's just, upon putting thought into it, I developed a much better understanding as to who Irvine was. And now, I like him a lot. Not quite my favourite character, but certainly one of the more interesting.

i found that about Irvine actually. but i think its because we train up more those who we like.

True to an extent, but the difference is Irvine can only single-hit kill monsters of less than 70.000 HP or so. Quistis can do it to pretty much every monster, plus she doesn't need to waste any ammo.

That said, Irvine is a good option in particular battles with multiple monsters of high physical defence (Fastitocalons are the ones that come to mind atm).

Irvine is also useful in battles aiming to Devour, especially against Adamantoises, given his fast 9.999 AP Ammo hit. But of course, that's way too advanced to make him more useful to the casual player.

I'm talking about her Degenerator limit, hun. Nothing to do with her level. Unless you were cruel enough to leave her without a Black Hole item.

And yeah, I'll agree Irvine can be a practical party member in some occasions, including Red Giant. I just find his usefulness limited compared to other characters.

My fondness for Zell goes beyond his "coolness" tbh. There is quite a bit to Zell's character that I admire. Sure he's easily enraged, but most of that is directly related to Seifer's attitude towards him, or other events in the game that warrant a protective behavior. I consider him a genuine and honest guy. He's very protective of the people he cares about, as we see when Galbadia invades Balamb, and also by how angry he gets with Irvine's womanizing antics on the train. I imagine him to be very respectful of women. He's very dedicated and loyal, as we see with how he wants to protect Edea in Esthar, and how he tries to help Rinoa with the griever ring. He's also quite knowledgeable, and knows quite a bit of nerdy details about the events of the game.

You are mad or what? Irvine is cool, in fact againts the Seifer in disc 3 i killed Seifer even before Squall had to use his limit break, but i triyed with my Zell, and i leveled him a lot and had Str to 255 and he does 30% of the 170 Irvine Str Points, an a more simple Explanation:

Zell with 255 and abusing of all his limit breaks does a sadly 2500 for total, but irvine with 170 or higer does 9999 to any oponent and can do easylyy over flow damage, of course with his limit breaks with a force of 190-220 it does with normal attacks 9999 and with a couble of Luck 50% it can do overflows all the time, but with the same thing Zell can Hardly do anything to any one, in fact at the beggining i junctioned Aqua to his force it was over 110 and barley he does 100 he does more like 90-95 and yes since i dint feel like training Zell i used my GS to put him at 100 with 255 of each stat, but wait, this isnt evrything that i do it with Zell isnt mean that i do with my characters (My principal team are all at 100 just im gonna to buy a new control, and try to make that their GF has Str at 80 so they can do overflow all the time).

I found that Squall, Zell, and Irvine are my best party!
