Up front..

This is the first time playing this, and I'm on DISC 2. I don't read FAQ's, so I have no idea what to expect..so please try to help w/out spoilers.

How important is the Card Game in FF8? I love the game, but since FF8 is your typical FF game in the sense that 'You can only save when we tell you you can..which alone should remove any FF game from recieving anything higher then a 9 in ratings'...it makes playing the game so annoying.

I want to play and play the card game because I like the game, but saving, running over 5 screens to play a game, winning a card, then running back to save, etc, get's old real quick. Sure, if I could choose to dump my Blobra cards onto someone I'd do it, but they always want to take my Ifrit, Diablo, Quistis card, etc.

So please HELP.

Do I need to continue this or what?

well playing cards is not essential to playing ff8, you dun need to complete the set to continue on with the story line or anything, its just kinda a mini game.
But if you do play it, you can get some pretty cool items etc. if you like it, then play it, if you get sick of it, then just continue on with the game...well thats what i do at least

You do need to play it to get cards that refine into items used in Squalls Lionheart sword.

theres a couple of key points that help.
1 is FH. theres a guy sitting on the steps who has loads of good cards and plays with ok rules and theres a save point like to screens away- very handy.
the random rule is awkward so once you have refine or card mod just change all the shit cards to items so the good ones are more likely to come out when you play.
just save play save play if you lose reset.
the other key point is towards the end of the game.
once you are on the last mission if you go back to the ship there are some people abourd that have all the rare cards and theres a save point on the ship. hope this helps. have fun and good luck

I thought that energy crystals refine to pulse ammo. Oh yeah, cards is fun to play if you have the patience. You can get a lot of cool stuff from the really good cards.

true, for lionheart you need pulse ammo, dragon fangs, and adamantines. all of which you can get by not using any cards. eg. energy crystal=pulse ammo, defeat blue dragon=dragon fang, defeat adamantiose=adamantine

I like the Card Game myself.... ran around getting all the rare (character, GF, special, etc.) cards.... the only problem is...

When time comes to refine them.... you remember how hard it took you to get them....

AND YOU DON'T WANNA REFINE THEM!!!! *tear* It took me a week to decide whether or not I wanted to refine one of my Boss Cards.... *tear*

While it's a ddictive, don't get too hooked. Trust me... you'll be in for heartache later on.... *tear*

actualli, i got all the cards, and finished the CC member stuff before disc 4, which means that the CC members appeared on my ragnarok..which means that if you refine a card, you can get it back by playing one of the CC members, eheh i managed to refine all the character cards about 4 times, and i've still got the full set

My grandson loves the card game, while I ignored it.

Really the only drawback is forgetting that, unless you are playing during the two times in the game where your rank clock isn't ticking, the more time you waste playing, the more your SeeD rank declines, and so does your paycheck.

It depends if you like the card game or not. It is just a sidequest in the game. It won't affect your game if you do not play it. I like the game and managed to collect all the Cards.
