* Does Squall die at the end? - Page 27

I still have'nt beat this game...-________________- But maybe tomorrow...

Those endings i saw were edited. I mean that some parts have been cut of. But i saw the REAL ending yesterday (that about 14-15 minutes long). I think that Squall was spirit or ghost on that balcony after all... Or maybe he even is alive. Can't say... But however, the ending was still kinda happy after all. But it still is touching.

Well i change my opinions on this almost everyday.

The reason why i want to know what really happened is that i felt little empty in the end. Empty, sad and it was little depressing even. The ending was a bit of surprise for me, i never even thought that it would be something like that. Actually i never even thought what kind of ending there would be in this game. But no doupt that the ending was little disappointment for me, because i had to wait about 5 years to play my favourite game to the end. Actually about 8 years from my first play on this game. It also brings much memories, but that's different story...

Some of you guys may think that the ending was so great because it was so open. Nah, i don't think so (in my opinion). It brings so many questions. I would prefer more simple happy ending than this, or even sad. But i would like to be sure what really happened.

Does any other Final Fantasy have this kind of threads, where people are trying to discuss about theories of 10 years old game?

And another threadwave coming after FFXIII release.

This was the second touching game ending in this summer. Actually there is not much games that touch me so much like this, i don't think that there is more than three or not even that. One of those is MGS3 ending, second is MGS4. But the endings were explained for players so good, so that's it. No need to think what really happened. FFVIII still leaves tons of questions.

I hope that i can get bit more happier or clearer ending in FFXIII or in other FF:s. And i hope that story and the whole game gives me same satisfying feeling that FFVIII gave. And the most important thing is that player sould be able to find out about questions etc.

The reason why i watched the ending on youtube actually was good. I woundered what kind of ending would be in FFVIII, then i watched it on youtube. Ending was confusing, then i used google to get here (As i said about 1,5 weeks ago, i managed to get my hands on copy). Actually i knew that i were unable to play it on my PS3 and i remember when i tried FFVIII demo on computer it sucked. The controls bit sucked. Then i finally decided to find PC-version, and i did it. I connected my Sixaxis (Mod) and played it, just like old times with DS2.

I would'nt be here right now if i did'nt watch the ending. So in the end, it was positive but also negative thing too. I'm still going to clear this game.

I think Squall said those "I'll be here" things when they (Squall & Rinoa) were in Edeas oprahance.

There is also theory that it was Squalls spirit. Squall said that he will be allways protecting Rinoa in life and death, no matter what. Squall also said, that he doese'nt even matter if the whole world would be their enemy.

I think that Square really wanted to make it as open ending. When Rinoa holds Squall in the flower field, you can see her face little shocked or something. Also it looks like that Squalls head moves little.

However, when Rinoa finds Squall in the end, she is in desert. Same desert what was in the time comparised world. Rinoa was in the field, so i guess she moved to Squalls world to pick him up. Then the flower field appears, and they promised to meet each other there, so... This is love story and good love stories doese'nt have fool/stupid endings (it's not stupid ending if Squall dies but...). So in my opinion, Square meant the last balcony moment for a surprise for players, that he really survived...

Edit: If Squall would die, it makes much theories possible. For wxample Ulti = Rinoa... But that's whole different story. I just think, that Ulti was only Rinoas reflected side.

The defeat of Ultimecia at the hands of Squall meant the end of Rinoa's torment. In the original timeline, Ultimecia existed as Rinoa, miserable, alone, the love of her life dead. But in killing Ultimecia in the future, they created a timeline without her.

The process would have simply repeated had Squall been killed. Once again, Rinoa's torment and grief would have contributed to Ultimecia and Griever, but obviously, there was no more Ultimecia. She got to live a life with Squall, thus, never turning evil.

Rinoa was not Hyne's descendant. My theory is that when Ultimecia came back in time and transferred her powers to Edea, Edea kept her powers and never had to transfer them to Rinoa, because there was no longer a threat to their world.

It's a serious time paradox, but it just seems like certain things would have been explained better if he died. Like Laguna visiting Squall's grave alone with Raine's grave.

Ellone sure as hell wouldn't have been so cheery either, had Squall died.
