re: Random Battles

Well, with the GF Diablos you can learn and Equip the Enc-Half and Enc none abilities, which either half or stop random battles all together respectively. But untill you learn that the amount of battles is totally randomised.

re: Random Battles

yeh thats the only thing you can do really, diablos' enc-none and enc-half. sometimes walking in a straight line really fast stops me finding monsters and if you zig-zag you find more. It's best to take advantage of the encounters and get the experience in though, as well as just the fun of battles. Gets a bit boring with no encounters.

re: Random Battles

Battles are good for the experience but I find, particularly in some places later in the game, they are pretty irritating.

re: Random Battles

yeh thats true, im on the d-district prison bit now, and i always forget what way you have to go. so I go either way up and down the stairs about 5 times until i remember to follow the moombas when you're looking for something like that the random battles can get annoying.

oh yeh, it might be obvious, but Enc None/ Half wont affect Boss battles or stuff like that. theres some fights you have to do no matter what. if you need any more help just ask.

I've heard some people say that it's best to gain as few levels as possible, as the monsters level up with you. But then you get less money and less abilities. Can someone explain what these people are saying? Perhaps you should wait until you can level up with stat bonuses?

re: Random Battles

I think that trick is so that battles dont go on for as long. Another trick is you can level up one character really high and keep the others at a low level, and so the monsters stay low levelled too. Levelling up is always an advantage though, first time i played i got to Ultimecias castle and all my characters was still level 20. I never completed that file. kept getting game overs.

Well, the point of that strategy is exactly what you said in your last phrase:

Avoid levelling up until you can use the Stat-Bonus abilities to your full advantage with every character. Of course, avoiding battles and setting up the party so that each character gets to win all the EXP is a lot of effort, but it's quite rewarding in the end. Whether it's worth it or not is up to the individual.

For me, it's not. I'd much rather focus on the CC Group and the infinite items it offers in CD4 than go through the whole no-EXP pain for 2.5 CDs. But yes, I do admit the stats of your party can be quite impressive by the end of the game if you use that strategy properly.

You don't earn gil from battles in this game ().

Less abilities? Cactuar fixes that in a flash

Sorry, I haven't played this game in a while, but I plan to play it again very soon. How does Cactuar fix this in a flash?

re: Random Battles

I think Bahamut with his Ability x4 is the one who fixes it. Cactuar is the one who provides the full array of bonus abilities: Str-Bonus, Mag-Bonus, Vit-Bonus and Spr-Bonus.

From the moment you get both Bahamut and Cactuar, you can start levelling up each character to use the Stat-Bonus strategy to the fullest.

20 AP per battle from the enemy, and loads of (inherent) stat boosts from the GF.
