Infinite/ BIG Grinds
|
hi guys. just wanted to start up a sharing of all sorts of grinds you found. i've tried finding infinite grinds before and got a few. last night i looked some more and found lots of groovy stuff.
i figured we could all post about our own custom grinds/ grinds we know about from somewhere, and since there doesn't seem to be a moderator about, i think it would be a GRAND idea to use a separate post for each grind that you're talking about. try to describe it in as much detail as you can to make it clear.
oh, and don't forget to change the title of your post (just to show which map you're talking about, which area, and what type of grind)

Shibuya-Cho, Bus Station, Infinite Grind
|
okay, everyone probably knows this one, but it's worth it in case somebody doesn't.
basic: start from the entrance to the bus station where there's that 2D picture which leads into the town square (where there are lots of people and the view changes to fixed-camera) - but don't go into the picture - just face into the bus station. now, if you go straight forward, speed up and jump on the rail in front of you (there should be a car, followed by a bus, parked up against it). grind along this, then jump up onto the sign at the end of the rail, to your left. grind along it for the full length, then jump across to the adjacent rail. grind along this, jump over the 'box' in the middle on to the rail which continues in a straight line. then jump onto the handrail which comes up and let it take you up and round that little corner. now, at this point you won't be going fast enough to do a trick in the air, so just wait, then do a large jump over the first gap (bit where the handrail goes down towards the bus shelter roof). you should now have picked up speed, so do the next jump straight away and you should easily clear the next gap. then the same again, straight away. depending on which character you use and how you handle the jumps, when you land this second time (when you see the two grind rails at the end that slope down together), you may land on either the nearer or the farther handrail. doesn't matter which, then grind down, and before you fall off, jump up, do a wall grind on the huge sign that comes up on your left, don't grind on it for too long or the next bit will be tricky, then simply jump down onto the next rail, where you'll have enough speed to jump back onto the original rail you were grinding on.
tips: there are a lot of parts in this grind which you will have to try again and again (if you've never done it before) to get just right. try it different ways. like, when you're grinding on the second time round, on the first rail, you might slow down too much, so just do a jump along the rail to keep the speed up. BUT, be careful because this then alters the next bit when you wall-grind off the sign. you might need to grind for less time, slow yourself down mid-air or just jump further to the right to connect to the next rail further on. there is also a variation on this infinite grind. when you get up onto the first handrail that slopes up onto the bridge, grind round the corner, jump across to the left-hand rail then jump down to the left where there is a rail against which a load of bikes are parked. grind on this, then jump onto one of the rails in front of you. if you jump on the one closest to you, remeber to jump over the top bit to get to the other rail that goes down the other side. if you get the farther rail, you should be fine. don't think you'll need a jump for speed boost. alternatively, jump on the rail nearest you, let it carry you round the corner and go back along there, down to the left and along to make a it a long grind. sheesh, think that will do for now.

Kogane-Cho, Sewers, Infinite Grind
|
again, this is one that a fair few jgr fans may know about
basic: go down to the sewers, go to the central 'room' in the sewers where the 'bridge' is, and where there are paths at either side of this central room, start from the one where there is a grind rail that runs right along the side, and connects to the bridge. now, grind along from the very beginning of this rail, doing a couple of jumps on that first little straight to keep the speed up, let it take you round the corner and onto the bridge, perhaps giving another jump on the bridge straight, then jump over the gap, keeping to the left-side rail. jump over the water to your left onto the rail which starts at the bottom of the stairs (but don't jump on the sloped bit; jump on to the straight bit that's there just before it bends towards the wall. then simply grind round that little bend, jump at the wall, aiming left slightly, do a nice little wall grind, and jump again, then steer yourself onto the original rail.
tips: on the jump over the water from the bridge to that last bit of rail, you'll need to experiment with the direction of the analogue stick; pushing it far left as you jump will make you jump too far over and miss the rail. also, on the last wall grind, remember to just press jump, without pushing in any direction, because if you push in a direction, it will throw you too far and you'll miss the rail, ending up in the water. simply jump, then steer yourself onto the rail afterwards.

Kogane-Cho, Indoor Skate Park, Infinite Grind
|
okay, i don't know if people know about this one. maybe everyone does
basic: right. start from anywhere. we'll start from the entrance. if you don't know what i mean by 'indoor skatepark', i mean this: in the area of kogane-cho where you first see the parachuting guys with machine guns (the second level of fighting off poison jam, i believe), there's that indoor bit at the lowest part of that area. got it? right... so, start at the entrance (from the area, not the sewer) and jump on the handrail that curves off to the right. now, there are a few variations of this grind. you can grind all along here, jumping twice along the long stretch of rail that follows, then jumping onto the blue pipe that's fixed to the wall in front of you. make sure you hit the very edge, or you will just land on top of the pipe. now, from here, i believe there is a way of jumping onto the other handrail that goes around the other side of the half-pipe. OR just jump onto one of the handrails that leads up the stairs. from here, grind round the corner (or if you landed on the other rail, jump to the left and connect to the long rail), then get ready to jump to your left onto the suspended bridge. then simply grind round and connect back onto the blue pipe. from here, you can either go back and continue grinding around the half-pipe, or just continue back over the suspended bridge and round. when grinding around the half-pipe, just jump the gap that occurs at the entrance to follow through.
tips: the blue pipe against the wall is a slow grinding spot. to make it as quick as you can, make sure that you try to jump on the last stretch of rail, landing close to the end. the same applies for whichever rail you are coming from. works best on the rail from around the half-pipe. when you jump on to the suspended bridge, if you're finding it difficult, try jumping from further back along the rail. finally, and importantly, it may be easier to do this grind in the opposite direction!

Benten-Cho, Traffic Area, Infinite Grind
|
a much more familiar one:
basic: okay, this part of the map is all a bit higgledy-piggledy , so i'll try my best to explain the start position. hmm. let's see. okay, remember the level where you've got to spray the noise tanks? well, at one of the points where they wait for you, it's one of the wider sections of the walkways, and when they run away from you, they head along the left-hand rail, which slopes down and faces another one sloping up on the other side. they jump across to this, and grind along the left-hand side there, then at the end where it turns right onto the pavement, there is a ledge straight ahead (not towards the pavement, behind the adjacent rail on the walkway), which is red. know where we are now? right, well, start at that waiting point. right at the end (there should be a flight of stairs which leads down the walkway to the street, to your right). now, speed and jump on to the handrail to your left, grind along, down, over the gap and up the other side. jump along here to build speed up again, and probably up the stairs first too. let it take you down to the right, then as late as you can, jump off and head for those blue 'separated rail' type things (i think they're blue ). grind along these, then jump to the road barrier (short, grey/ silvery thing), grind along it and jump up onto the right-hand handrail. jump a few times up here because otherwise you'll be going too slow and will come to a stop. jump off the end of here before you get to the corner and land on the opposite rail (facing along the bridge, not straight on up the other side)*. let it carry you round the corner and down. you'll be able to jump onto another set of those separated blue handrails, grind along them, then jump onto the next upward-sloping handrail (left-hand-side), jumping again. when you reach the top, you should realise you're in your original spot.
tips: * this part can be done in different ways, and you'll probably find that you do it in different ways depending on how fast you're going and all sorts of other variables. anyhoo, you can also try going round the corner onto the bridge before jumping to the left-hand side rail. you can either jump straight to the rail, or jump over the corner and land on the down-slope. finally, when you're grinding up-slope on the handrails, keep doing little jumps (gentle press on the A button), until you have enough speed to do a big trick-jump which will boost you up nicely onto the straight.

Benten-Cho, Subway Station, Infinite and BIG Grind
|
don't think many will know about this one. this is just a custom favourite of mine
basic: i assume everyone knows where the subway station is. you get to it either by going on the above-ground tracks and going underground or by going down the steps in the ramp/ multiple grind wire area. anyway, follow the subway line deep underground until you find a cosey little station from which you can get your infinite grind. this one can be a little unpredictable, because the trains can get in the way. anyway, for argument's sake, start grinding on one of the handrails at either end of the station platform. grind round, jump off and land on the side of the platform, which you can grind along. simply jump onto the other handrail and then onto the other side of the platform. you can grind around like this, but the train may catch you on the side nearest the track.
tips: to make the grind more interesting, try wall grinding at the sides, then jump from these onto the handrails. if you ever miss the handrails, just try grinding off the wall behind it, then the side wall, and connect either to the side of the platform or straight to the rail. to make this a BIG grind, simply jump onto the tracks, doing wallgrinds in the subway tunnels and follow them out to the surface. you can go on from here back to the ramp/ grind wires section, which is a long grind out!

Bantam Street, 2 Infinite Grinds/ 1 BIG Grind
|
right. this is another gem that i found last night and it is one MOTHER of a grind. there are two separate grinds, both infinite, but the biggest one was just a BIG grind that i managed to make infinite.
SMALLER:
basic: okay, go to the little park with the half half-pipe (i.e. one slope only ). stand at the basketball net and face away from the ramp. to your right is a rail. grind on here, jump and wall grind to your right, then jump off left and up on top of the wall in the middle so that you're grinding along the top, not wall-grinding on the side. quickly jump onto the rail you're facing (you may need to pull back to slow down or push to the left to stop from going too far), then jump forward and to the right just before the little bend so's you connect to that parallel rail. let it take you rounf the corner, then jump down onto the rail you were originally grinding on.
tips: as a variation, from the first rail, do a wall grind to your right at the end, grind for the full length, then jump towards the handrail that slopes up and out of the park. you can see where i'm going from here. you can also jump from here, once round the corner, onto the rail to the right of you, so that you then need only to do a straight jump to connect to the next rail.
BIGGER:
basic: now this has got to be my longest infinite grind yet. you know what i mean, the longest route. anyway, if we start from the bottom of the building that you can enter through the doors, come out of there, turn right and jump on the beginning of that 'edge' that sticks out from the bottom of the wall. grind all along here, jumping occasionally to keep your speed up. when you get to the first gap, jump, wall-grind, the jump again and land on the edge again. now, to add to this route, i just jump forward onto the wall that juts out to the left, and jump left onto the smaller infinite grind section. i just go for one round of this, then when you're on the rail that's parallel with the wall you came off again, jump straight on and land on that pavement edge (high white thing), grind, jump up to the next one then jump back to the original wall. go round the corner, jumping twice along here to build up speed. then at a fair distance from the end, jump and wall grind off the green sign that you see that hangs down from the railway bridge. push hard left and come back on yourself so that you land on the right-hand handrail that goes up the stairs. [please note, i did this with beat, and you will find that certain characters cannot turn sharply enough to do this part of the route] grind up here, let it take you round the bend, then jump onto the edge of the bit that sticks out from underneath the big poster board. grind along here, jump the building gap (should be a trick jump*) and land a wallgrind on the next poster board. jump off this and to the right, grind off that poster board, then off the one to the left, then to the right again**, then usually you would jump off that left one and into the building, smashing through the window. this is what completed my BIG grind. to make it infinite, however ... ... don't jump onto that final left one. simply jump off the right-hand poster board down to the 'edge' on which you started the grind. phew. it may work jumping off the left one sometimes (i did it once), but it's very unlikely. it just lands you too slowly. anyhoo, do it all right and the end bit looks cool - it zooms out as you plummet from that last poster-board, because it thinks you're going to fall and SPLAT (be careful as you aim your landing). but then, it suddenly zooms back in as you land it perfectly :D:D - very rewarding. and yes, i am sad. and proud :D:D
tips: *if it's not, it means you're not going fast enough. just do an extra little jump on that first poster-board edge to gather some speed. or perhaps jump and wall grind off the first poster. haven't tried that. hmm **if you find jumping from board to board difficult, and you keep missing some, here's how it should be done: grind on each poster board for the longest possible time, then jump and land as high as you can (otherwise, you lose height and can't reach the final boards). also, to land each one dead on target, push diagonally (as accurately as possible) towards the board. and there you go. finally, to max out the tricks for this run, where you are grinding right next to a wall, just do a little jump and push straight towards the wall so that you wall-grind immediately. let it drop you back down onto what you're grinding on (i.e. don't jump at the end of the wall-grind), and then jump straight back onto the wall again and repeat. do this wherever possible, and you'll get LOADS of tricks. on a basic run with minimum tricks, you'll get about 85. easy 100+ with maxout. :D:D

Bantam Street, Railway Bridge, Infinite Grind
|
just found a simple one on the railway bridge. tried this before and it didn't work. it's easy tho
basic: grind along one of the side-rails on the railway bridge stretch. keep jumping to gather speed. before you end up grinding out towards the exit, just jump to he opposite rail, pushing hard in that direction until you land it and end up going back the other way. [this is another one that i did with beat, and you may find that certain characters cannot turn sharply enough to do this route]
tips: jump onto the tracks and grind along them, keep switching. this is what makes it a fun place to grind. perhaps use the poster board in the middle for some wall grinds too

Grind Square, Infinite Grind
|
haven't been on jgr lately, but played just the other day and found this nice little ditty: (all you need to do is jump )
basic: to make this as easy as possible to describe, just go up the elevator that sits on the ground (the other comes to a few feet above the ground). when you reach the top, go right, grind along the rail, up the stairs, along the flagpole and jump onto the sparkly pink wire thing on the other side. now, let this take you down, and jump off the end (straight, no steering needed )so that you land on one of the two pink wires that go alongside the statue. when you reach the end, jump again and you should land on the rail that slopes up towards the platform opposite the one you just came from. when you reach the top, or maybe a little before, jump over the end so that you land on the pipe behind it that goes up in a kind of spiral. let it take you round and to the top, jumping up the slopes, maybe a little on the straights (make sure not to do any trick jumps on the straights. you will probably fly off the pipe!) - and at the top it will take you onto a ledge. jump again to build up speed, let it carry you onto the other pipe and down the other side, and when it slopes towards its end, jump and you will find that you land on the pink wire just above it*. jump again to land on one of the pink wires around the statue again. jump off this to go up the next pink wire, then jump over on to the pipe behind it... see where i'm going? . it's simple to do, and eventually you get back to where you started.
tips: some of the jumps, such as the one here: *, should be easy enough, but you may be timing it completely wrong. if it doesn't work, just do the whole trial and error thing, i.e. try jumping earlier or later, etc. etc. depending on your results. in this case, you may have a false impression of the location of that pink wire.
thanks for listening

re: Infinite/ BIG Grinds

Bantam Street: Here's an infinite grind for Bantam Street: From the starting point of the normal mission(Tag or die) and do whatever(jump down or ride hexagon poster)and land on the long rail in front of the light blue wall with grafittis on it. Continue to ride an wallride until you get to the first sharp turn(like a right angle). before you turn, jump to the left and wallride. Wallride to the wall in front of you and wallride off of that so that you wallride off the wall parallel to your original position(The one to the right of where you start really wallriding) and land on the fence. Make sure you're going to the starting position of the long rail. Jump the gap and jump to the rail. Jump to the left and land on the ledge of the porch on the house. Jump forward and wallride to the right and start all over again.
Shibuya Park Street: This one is really easy. You know those two staircases by the park? All you have to do is jump to and fro on the rails of those staircases(stay on the inside of the two(the rails on the inside))and jump to the opposit side's rail when the telephone pole is in front of you.
Two more coming soon. I'm getting sick of typing. Sorry if my directions suck.
