Hello, Haijin!

It's nice to meet you, but to be honest, after reading your posts it surprises me that you find any joy in Silent Hill at all. All I mean is that not only do you discount the well-placed sounds in Silent Hill as merely an irrelevant scaring device, you don't even place any value in what the other characters in Silent Hill are revealing about James' character.

Chrysm's right: a huge portion of the game's appeal is to puzzle out why James is meeting these people in the first place. Why is he hearing the sounds he's hearing when he hears them? What is the relevance to the shapes the demons are taking? Now believe me, I know what it's like to put more meaning into something than is warranted. But I don't think this is the case for this game. I truly believe that everything and everyone was designed to have meaning. Half the fun of the game is trying to discover just what that is.

I mean, take that away the intelligence and the symbolism of Silent Hill and you have a game as overt and un-inspiring as...well...Resident Evil. (**ducks incoming shrapnel**)

Hon, all opinions are welcome here. Please don't take anything said on this forum in the wrong way, or as a personal attack. I know Chrys well enough to know that she was being dryly sarcastic, and if she were here she'd say the same thing. We take pleasure in lightly abusing each other on various opinions, because those who have been here awhile know that it's nothing personal and all in good fun. I'm very happy you've found this board! Chrys and I, along with Dark Dreamer, Silent Fan, Wile E., and twirlbird (to name a few!) used to frequent this place a lot. When we ran out of things to say, and started talking about if Harry wore boxers or briefs, we knew it was time to take a vacation for awhile.

Again, sorry if anything that's said is taken in offense. We're one big happy family here, and you are a welcome new member of the clan.

I Took A Break From The Forum Because Of A New Romance But Thats Not The Point! I'm Back 2nite Coz It's Sunday And Came Home Early And Wanted To Talk About SH. I Have A Theory: Everytime You See Laura There Is A Cat Drawn On Walls Or Something. When You Meet Her On The Wall Outside The Apartments A Cat Is On The Wall And Then She Draws A Cat On The Hotel Window. What Does This Mean?

Good Point. If You Click On The Cat On The Window It Just Says "...A Cat?" Probably Nothing...

Hmmm...Well Egyptians worshipped Cats as if they were Gods, and had cats buried with them when they were mummified...Maybe the Cats Laura draws are her innocent representation of the "Gods" of the Town? Perhaps they represent all the death she's seen? Maybe.....

When ever im around cats they're evil as hell... just adds to the evilness of the town to me.

but that thought of egyption religion... maybe you're right but the story of silent hill, as i remember it, has no egyption backround. don't get me wrong, you may be right.

my theory is that it may be a representation of laura's innocence, even she acts like a key-kicking brat.
It HAS to represent something, i don't think it's coincidence that nearly every Laura seen has a cat in it...
wait- James wife was "innocent" when he killed her right? the cat... and Laura represent yet another presence of innocence, something he has to srtuggle with???
