Pencil March 18th into your diaries, folks, as the latest issue of the trade mag MCV has both the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP being released on that one day.

The Easter period is a strong time for games sales, so it's not surprising that both companies are targeting this lucrative time. How the competition would affect sales is unknown, but there is the possibility that one company might bring the launch forward to get a leap on the competition.

However, this writer fully expects to drop around £300 that week, presuming the PSP's expected launch price of £199 and the DS's £99 pricetag don't rise. Only ten months to go!

I would however like to point out that Upwire.com is known to be quite unreliable, but it can be good for small articles the other big sites don't always publish. Also, I dunno whether that date is for US or UK (as Upwire is UK based).

I saw a collum in the newspaper about the PSP. There's something they said that could realy be bad for Nintindo. They said the retail price for the PSP is $39(US), that probably will mean there games are going to be even cheaper!

right, games should be cheaper anyway just you guys used to be cheated on the high price and take it as the default way, the granted and the 'normal' way. they don't worth that much money, especially for a pcs of gba game only.

your questions are kinda funny, but oh well, PS2 surely will still be lasting a long time. XBOX i personally don't like it as it is the microsoft product, and XBOX games, most but not all are in styles that look stupid to me (too american ways and sometimes they do look really bad). They don't really understand what a game should be, Japanese gaming industry rules, and indeed they are the father of video games. anyway, Nintendo for sure will last~ this question is really kinda funny~ I am not sure how old you are, but Nintendo was there for like 20 yrs already, or more, whether a company will survive or not does not only depend on one console~

like SEGA, they been around for over 20 years and even tho the console Saturn is screwed by the PS few years ago, they are still surviving! for those who are too young to know, SEGA, has their color handheld console for like 15 YEARS AGO already!!! I mean perfect colors. The console is called GameGear, where that time gameboy is still in black&white only! oh well, you guys should just play whatever is available and the revolutions of video games are depending on Japan gaming industries only, not the others. (remember, most of the games are originally Japanese, you guys are just playing translated english releases, do not think they are somehow become created by the north america...same as the japanese anime~! )

I can't wait til a lot of you get over your Japanese culture shock. There's always some culture that a lot of mainstream media gets influenced off of and right now it's Japan.

Truth is that Xbox has tons of great games and you try to mention SEGA? Well most of it's top titles comeing out now are exclusive to the Xbox. Sorry to tell you but, saying Xbox doesn't have anytype of inovation or "culture" is hurting yourself. Cause while PS2 gamer concentrate on one part of the world. The games on Xbox are made in America, Europe, Japan, Austrailia and Canada just to name a few.

So while you trip over Turn-Based RPG's and prefer them over Real-Time. Remember the last RPG to get game of the year with rateings that stomped the FF series to the ground was Morrowind and it's a Xbox exclusive cause PS2 can't handle it...

Making PSP version of home console games could get quite complicated, as due to Sony's "only we publish games" tactic on the PSP, two companies will have to get publishing rights (normally a game has the same publisher across all platforms). That could in theory be quite damaging for the PSP, as say another publisher (say THQ) wants exclusive publishing rights to a title, it would have to "lean on" the developers not to make a PSP version at all, as from what I gather all PSP games will be published by Sony.

Japanese gameing has gone down over the years. Take look at the top Japanese games over the years. Where are there Game Of The Year awards or there near flawless rateings. It pretty much looks as of this moment that Western Gameing is dominateing.

What you said is wrong and the only reason why so many games were Japanese before were cause the location. Consoles were made in Japan and most profits happend there. Now it's switched to the Western world where the U.S, Europe and other countries. Pretty much develope most of the games.

Now it seems that Japan's developers are stuck in the past. They don't get that gameing is moveing forward still and if you want to keep up. You have to make new ideas and not get tied to the same aspects of gameing. So they can rotate around their culture all they want. If they keep just slapping a Anime title name on a game with gameplay that's been out since the N-64 then they're going to become worthless.

I'm just glad today most people are over the plot phase in gameing. Yes Japan provides great plots in games but, little of thier games have great gameplay elements to boot. That's the reason why their rateings are starting to decline, cause a lot of people aren't playing games to watch a movie. They play a game to be apart of that movie...

i think you are, really, an idiot who is our of his mind. you are telling me western games domainating!?!?! it is extremely ridiculous. and yes, the consoles are from Japan, it is where they were created, and the video games industries. I really hate the ones who forget the origin. Indeed, until today, the revolutions in video games are still being lead by the Japan. Stealing others ideas and works, yet not making them any better, and get it translated or followed and you are now telling me you guys are making better games~?? that is kinda really stupid man~! u know wut, the ONLY console left for you playing is Xbox by microsoft, and over half the games for all consoles you will never had a chance to play if you do not play japanese or translated japanese games. really, i should say, holy shit! you should be appreciating the great quality, immaginations, and innovations that the japanese games are giving to the gamers on the world. holy, you are really out of your minds and actually thinking the stuff is yours after stealing it~ oh my god~ guess shouldn't continue to waste my time on this thread~

Well recent news shows that Sony is not allowing tons of ports to the PSP. They will allow full fledge sequels or add-ons to a series but, none will include ports. Out of all the games of E3 only one was a full fledged port that was confirmed. The others were used to show off the PSP technology.

So to all the people that keep on saying they don't want a PSP just because of all the ports. You can't say nothing now cause there will be little/none ports for the PSP...

4 Games developed in Japan but, all of them have Western culture. Japanese developers are changeing their strategies cause they know if they don't move to Western mainstream. Their games won't sell asshole.

Dumb ass I own a PS2 and have played every FF excludeing 2 of them. I play still play FF:Tactics and from what it sounds like. I know a lot more on games then you.
