Nope. I find that the instruments seem out of sync with one another, as the drummer plays so fast the other instruments rarely keep up the time. You really have to look into power metal to find music where all the instruments can compliment each other at such blisteringly fast speeds. ------------------- ![]() November 23rd...?

Blistering fast speeds? Few power metal bands play fast guitar and that's about it. Don't insult death metal just because it isn't to your liking. ------------------- ![]() quote Jim Haslett

I would definately prefer it to the totally indecipherable grunts and growls, as I quite often really enjoy the heaviness and awesome playing. Though at the same time its a genre that I would never fully immerse myself in anyway as I like music thats often mellow and relaxing. And also the vocals are the one part of a band that usually set a band apart, vocals are a unique instrument in a sense, as a guitarist can just get the same gear and set up and sound the same as another guitarist, for vocals you can't really do that, so without any vocals at all, that type of music would get really repetitive really quickly. ------------------- ![]()

If you guys want to play that card, what if Bright Eyes (or a similar band) had no vocals? I know I wouldn't listen to them. And I really doubt I'd listen to songs that have growling in them if they didn't have vocals, simply because vocals are such a huge factor in a song. Without vocals, I highly doubt that most bands' music would stay as appealing for very long. ------------------- ![]()

Liquid Tension Experiment are quite good, but that's because their music is made with the intent of not having a vocalist. Music with vocals are made to have them, so taking them out would most likely result in music that loses its touch much quicker. Never said you couldn't enjoy music without vocals, just said that if you take them out of an exsisting song, it would be losing a big part of itself. ------------------- ![]()

Thats pretty much what my final point was getting at but your point is a bit flawed, vocals and their important depends entirely on how the song is intended to sound and how it was composed. ------------------- ![]()

I think there are a few songs with vocals which I could listen to and still enjoy if the vocals were removed. O' course these songs aren't the easiest to comeby.

Alright, so Nightmare Before Christmas, although is a childhood favorite, has became raped in the recent years, mostly by the influence of Posers-R-Us. -------------------

The majority of post-rock bands are instrumental. I'm not sure if you'd classify them along with progressive music though... My favourites are Godspeed You! Black Emperor, 65daysofstatic, The Evaptoria Report and Pelican. They're all instrumental (well, 65dos and GY!BE use vocal samples) and they're all brilliant. ------------------- ![]()

quote SmokeYeah, I never really understood that. Oh and Rockhole, check out Sleep Terror if you aren't already aware of them (I'll be surprised if you aren't). Pretty good technical-death stuff, although a lot of people hate it. -------------------
