Just like Carter III, this makes me facepalm. Again. I'm with
Oogity_Boogity_Boo here,
ESPECIALLY about Weezy having more than what is found on the CD within him, but I have a slightly different opinion.
I actually do like some of the tracks on the album. I liked the singles (except for How to Love) Interludes and So Special, President Carter, Mirror are actually good songs. BUT. That's where it ends. Unless the other tracks win me over, this is going down as not only the worst of the Carters, but as the most inconsistent album in his MF'in catalog. Before I get Rebirth thrown in my face, that album was actually very consistent, every song was terrible
But here, we've got some great songs, one OK song and the rest belong on a free mixtape or something. It's like a DJ slapped random songs together on a playlist or something, there's nothing tying one song to another.
It's clearer to me that Weezy has lost his muse, and not even jail could refuel the fire he once had. Carter II will likely be the pinnacle of his ability to bridge commercial with the gritty, because nowadays, his lyrics reminds me of most people's Facebook statuses - spitting out the most random shit and hoping it'll stick and get likes from people he never talks to.
And to think Weezy had the audacity to demand
producers to step up their game for the Carter IV. Looks like everyone heeded the message - except him.
I can only hope Jigga replies to him. A mediocre Nas came back hard the last time Jigga added fuel to the fire, and the rest is history.
