Eighteen Visions

Obsession, Desire, Depression: themes that drive a strenuous romantic entanglement forward, fixations that paralyze and motivate with equal measure and three words - or at least the first two - that perfectly sum up the state of Eighteen Visions. This is typically the hyperbole filled part of the bio for a record like "Obsession" where it tries to convince you that it's "the band's most accessible material to date" while "it fails to sacrifice any of the band's signature heaviness." But you know what? Screw that.

Because Eighteen Visions are going for broke. This is the album of their career. A landmark, a turning point, a clearly articulated punch to the face that drives home the point hinted at with 2002's band-in-transition album, "Vanity," which produced the "Headbanger's Ball" staple, "You Broke Like Glass", that Eighteen Visions can become THE heavy rock band of today.

Together with producer Mudrock, whose knob-twiddling muscled-up Godsmack and added a glossy sheen to Avenged Sevenfold, the Orange County Metalcore mob have crafted thirteen bite-sized, hook-laden, fast-moving surefire singles of their most memorable material, each song whizzing by with a chorus that sticks in your head.

Eighteen Visions is pretty badass. Does anyone else like them? If you want their harder stuff check out stuff from Until The Ink Runs Out to Vanity. Most of their lighter stuff is on their latest CD, Obsession.

Here's the lesson for the day. I'm going to take eight bands and split them up into two groups. One group is a list of emo bands, and the other group is a list of bands all belonging to a different genre. Guess which group is emo.

Group 1: The Used, Taking Back Sunday, My Chemical Romance, Thursday.

Group 2: Jawbreaker, Still Life, Fugazi, Rites Of Spring.

Dunno, but i think i am gonna buy Vanity and Until The Ink Runs Out by them.

I would have to say that all of their old cds are the best. Vanity was tolerable, but i am going to buy a few of their other releses -

Got The Best Of a few weeks ago and I finally got around listening to it fully today. Such a great album, so far it's my favorite Eighteen Visions CD. I highly recomened this one before any other. There is not 1 bad song at all.

Is the reissue of Vanity re recorded? Or is it just a straight up reissue? I'm just wondering because I sorta really like the fuzzyness in their sound on their records.

Just re-issued with new artwork and the video for You Broke Like Glass. Nothing else besides that.
