For fans of....I can't even think of anything that's like this...maybe MeWithoutYou?
Listener is an experimental spoken word band that started in 2002 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. It deviates from hip-hop collective Deepspace5, Listener is composed of Dan Smith as both vocalist and lyricist and Christin Nelson as composer. Their music has been described as "Talk Music". A style that has been described as being: "a wide spanning style that features a heavy vocal element that is neither screamed, sang, or just spoken. The lyrics are more like ranting poetry."
With the Release of Ozark Empire, Listener began their first Tour of Homes. This consisted almost entirely of traveling from home to home around the United States (the European leg of the tour was titled the European Tour of Homes) in a grassroots style of touring. Not only playing in standard live music venues they also played in houses, coffee shops, art galleries and warehouses.
Listener recently played the Livemusic Social Club. Here they mentioned what the foundation is to their music: "It would be not through any filter that society or this world offers, that's honest and from the heart. Not having any agenda or some kind of ulterior motive or intention, whether it's to be cool, indie or avant-garde, none of that - and to just do it."
Listener released their eighth studio album, Wooden Heart independently on July 6, 2010. Six of the tracks featured on the album were used on their previous release, "Not Waving, Drowning". The album was released as 1000 Vinyl pressings; 100 in Black, 200 in White, 300 in Clear and Black and 400 in Teal.

When I hear music like this, I just feel the need to spread the word. This music can be hard to listen to for some and that is completely understandable. If you do get and like it, you will be blown away by this man's intelligence, delivery, and passion. A youtube comment I saw summed it up pretty well.
"I appreciate this as art, like I would a painting. Usually when I listen to anything musical it's for the beat or the melody, not as much for the words. With this, the music itself isn't meant to reach the listener, but instead is a frame to his voice and the meaning of his words."

This will cure anything, just remember that, just remember that, just remember that, just remember that. Just belive that.
It actually confuses me a little. I'm all for angry spoken-word tracks, but it all sounds a bit clustered I reckon. The lyrics are a bit all over the place and it seems like it was written with a spur of irrational anger because it doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense to me.

Just starting listening and I must say, it kinda caught me off guard. Their music is quite a wonderful mixture that I really, really like.
Also, is just me or does the vocalist sound a lot like Tom DeLonge from Blink-182 at times? It's uncanny.
