electronic Jessie Ware

Jessie Ware is a Brixton based singer-songwriter whose music is primarily a fusion of electronic, soul and trip-hop. Ware trained classically at primary school, with her tastes drifting into jazz standards by way of Cole Porter and George Gershwin until natural progression "and the 90s" led her to R&B, Lauryn Hill and soul, which is where she's headed with her debut album Devotion, produced by Dave Okumu of the Invisible and due for release in the summer of 2012.

Ware began her career providing vocals for artists such as "postdubstepper" SBTRKT (on "Right Thing to Do" and “Nervous”), with Sampha (SBTRKT's frequent collaborator) on lo-fi dubstep track, Valentine, and on DJ Joker's "The Vision". She credits Rinse DJ Oneman with "pioneering" her, yet despite this backing, remained little more than a stalwart vocalist on Boiler Room, YouTube's live stream show, which showcases new music. Then Rinse FM went legal in 2010, dubstep as a genre was revitalised and her music reached a wider audience.

ARTIST ACTIVITY

Jessie Ware is currently on tour around the United Kingdom, Ireland (playing here on the 5th of November) and doing a date in Paris (Pitchfork Music Festival) Belgium and Netherlands. She cancelled her spot at the Underage Festival 2012 in London for reasons I'm unaware of in case any of you happened to pick up a ticket.

She had her first single out last year called Strangest Feeling, and a second EP released recently for her upcoming album (Devotion released on the 20th of this month) called 'Running'. She was also involved with SBTRKT last year, but I'm sure orion chuzzlewitt could tell you a lot more about this woman than I could.

RECOMMENDED TRACKS FROM ARTIST

Just back from her gig at Plan B which was pretty damn awesome. Vocally she absolutely killed it as you'd expect, and played what I'm guessing will be the majority of the upcoming album. Guest apps from Dave Okumu and Sampha, Bashmore DJing, and I'm pretty sure I spotted SBTRKT in the crowd (minus the mask), so I put the night down as a win all round.

Album is getting rave reviews all round, and deservedly so (been bumping it solidly since it came out). Of the newer material I'm loving 'Taking Water' too but I just can't get over how good 'Sweet Talk' is. Bashmore does it again.
