That could be it. They are pretty abrupt and tough to the eyes if you just aren't used to looking at them. They fall into place after awhile though.

If you want me to get critical.

There's no standard of space in the tags, just a standard box with text in it. That leaves no real variation in each, just makes it bland. You'll see boxes like "[----POP----]" and then those that are [PROGRESSIVE]. While the current tags are not one for text-scrunching, some of them are quite crowded, using the absolute limits of space. I'd feel more comfortable with tags that ranged in different sizes, such as: [-POP-] and [-PROGRESSIVE-]. It adds more variety and allows for a bit more variation on the eyes.

Tags are also a tad sore on the block, and pages I have already visited have their highlighted numerals overlapping the graphics. I would also recommend colour-coding, since these tags primarily focus on organization. The double-eigth note is just boring to me, has no variety, and is largely unnecessary. Okay, it's music, we don't need a miniature graphic next to each name to remind us. That's just my take.

Also, *bleep* genres.

I think it's pretty useful and will become even more so when we will be allowed to tag threads all at once rather than individually, EricF has done amazingly to do so many already i'd have given up so much sooner.

Personally i think they're a little bold and would prefer a softer colour scheme. I don't like that they distract me from the thread titles. Like the design itself though and think we should definitely persevere with the system.

As for size, i think they are automatically capped to a certain size? Would be even more obtrusive if they were to be all different sizes and colours too i'd think.

Nope, I honestly think as they are now, they just don't suit or look nice. Why can I not disagree with your opinion purely on preference? Alvin already made the point about them distracting from the thread title which is quite annoying, especially when some thread titles are pushed along as if they've been indented and others remain normal. They seem far too in my face, bold the colours aren't so aesthetically pleasing, especially upon the light background. Also, the length of the tag could perhaps be shortened without the note next to the genre - but my main concern is also the size - they seem a little intrusive and I think I would prefer them if they were in the sub-title for a thread where the current genre lies and about that size. Maybe transparent too. I don't know, I'm just leaving my 2c as I was quite taken back when I first saw them.

The actual tags can always be edited, but the premise of what they can offer is going to be very handy.

Don't mean to poop in your shoes EricF but I'm finding these new tags a little hard to read. The concept is a good one on the whole imo, though, and thanks for putting in the effort.

Btw are these new things meant to replace the old genre tags below the page numbers. If that's the case I think they'd look decent moved into that position if possible. Also, can we have an R&B tag?
