Sylosis

Description:

quote Wikipedia
Sylosis are a British heavy metal band from Reading, Berkshire formed in 2000. They have used various genres in their music over the years with their first 2 EP's and debut album. They base themselves on 1980's thrash metal.

They were formed in late 2000 with original member Josh Middleton when they were back in school, as a bunch of kids who just wanted to play metal, mainly old school thrash and death metal. Over the years they went through various lineup changes, playing only a few gigs due to the members being unable to drive and being in school, also no underground metal scene at the time. Sylosis released couple of EPs released in the UK on a small indie label, In at the Deep End Records. In November, 2007 Sylosis got an email from Nuclear Blast saying they'd love to work with the band and signed to them a month later, in which their debut album was released on October 24th 2008.

Lead guitarist Josh Middleton was quoted as saying on an interview with About.com:

"The foundation of our sound is old school Bay Area thrash. We don't downtune and we don't play breakdowns. We do like to incorporate lots of different metal styles and textures into our music. We like make all of our songs really epic. We like progressive stuff, brutal stuff and melodic stuff."

Their debut album Conclusion of an Age has a lot of themes, but is generally not a concept album. Lyrically, the album deals with the end of the human race, in how nature reclaims the earth again. The artwork shows a world living with the human race. There are no religious beliefs behind the wrtitings however. After recording the debut album guitarist Gurneet Ahluwalia quit the band to rejoin his old band Viatrophy, also from Reading. In his place ex-guitarist Alex Bailey of Viatrophy joined Sylosis, ready for the early 2009 European tour with The Black Dahlia Murder, Cephalic Carnage and Psycroptic.

What the *bleep*, epic thrash metal? This sounds like metalcore!

At least they're tolerable. Kind of boring to listen to though.

re: Sylosis

This is melodic death metal.

Also, they look very tough in that band photo.

Eh, sounds more metalcore to me. Pretty good stuff, though, either way.

re: Sylosis

Actually they take their inspiration from Metalcore, Melodic Death Metal and more as they like to experiment. But they go by the genre Thrash so they just go by the nickname Epic Thrash.

re: Sylosis

Not thrash, and not epic.

LM is right they have more in common with Gothenburg sound than Bay Area thrash.

re: Sylosis

This band sounds good. Like. I don't really know what to call them though. They're kinda like metalcore. Kinda like thrash. There is a little epicness in there. But WTF is "epic thrash"?

re: Sylosis

Due to the lol replies it's just Thrash now, I don't want to recognise them under like four different genre tags though because it's only influences which they even explain in a video posted by their YouTube account.

Actually I'll edit the first post with a link in case anyone's interested.

The Blackest Skyline is my personal favourite but Teras is something most people can enjoy I reckon.

The Blackest Skyline, to me sounds a but like Whiplash by Metallica.

Dark Arcanine actually linked me to their videos and I listened to them. Then he sent me the song files.

Got to say I like them...like a lot. Oath of Silence is possibly my favorite track from them.

Noticed about a week ago there's a bonus track to Conclusion of an Age which is only available through iTunes... as stupid as it sounds to me.
