I don't see why they are anything different and/or better than any other same-old sounding crap new music is delivering right now. I suppose they get plus points for catchy-ness, but I can't say I will ever be a huge fan.

They also get massive plus points for not taking the whole band thing very seriously. Having seen them live I can safely say out of all the lightweight British indie bands that have been pushed to the fore in the past few years The Wombats have definitely come across as the most fun and easy going.

Oh and they also get points for the lyrical genius that is Kill The Director:

Carrots help us see much better in the dark
Don’t talk to girls they’ll break your heart
And this is my head and this is my spout
Though they work together, they can’t figure anything out

i think john darnielle is pretty good friends with the wombats. or at least that wombat.
