The next two characters to be added to Disney Infinity have been revealed, though their releases will have to wait until Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes, AKA Disney Infinity 2.0, launches this fall. Please welcome to the Toy Box the red-haired Merida, star of Brave, and Maleficent, show stealer of Sleeping Beauty and show runner of the upcoming Maleficent film. Two ladies who do what they want, when they want, for better or worse.
Here are Disney Interactive's summaries for the two characters, including the unique abilities they will each bring to the game:
- Maleficent: The wicked title character from the upcoming Walt Disney Studios film employs numerous magical powers and can attack using her magic in melee and ranged combat. To defeat enemies, Maleficent has the ability to utilize projectile and area of effect attacks that affect multiple targets within a specified area, brambles that she summons from the ground and ravens that she can call on to attack targets.
- Merida: With her untamed fiery red locks, this headstrong Princess will definitely leave her mark in Disney Infinity. Between her sharp sword and bow combo attacks with ricocheting arrows, she can upgrade her aim with elemental freeze arrows, freezing enemies in front of her then following up with rapid shots showing off her impressive athletic skills as an archer and sword fighter.
It feels like Brave's lead character has been a long time coming, since her inclusion with the Disney Infinity launch would have been much closer to the movie's launch. Perhaps that says more about how Disney views Merida in relation to the other characters that have since been launched. Maleficent's launch makes much more sense, as it's quite clearly a marketing tie-in with the big movie. That said, Maleficent is just an awesome character in general and her inclusion was inevitable.
Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes will be available later this year for basically every platform: *deep breath* PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, PC, 3DS and iPad. Six figures have already been announced for the follow-up's launch, including Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye and Black Widow. Merida and Maleficent will do a great job of filling out the testosterone heavy line-up.
