2008 Election [candidates]

This seems more like an Obama-focused thread than an actual discussion of the candidates, it might be better suited for this thread unless you were planning on actually discussing all possible candidates across party lines for the office of the Presidency in 2008.

The domestic problem of our multi-trillion dollar debt is even more important than Social Security.

Sadly though the War in Iraq is "sexy" news and the crumbling economy and rising debt are not. The real estate market in many parts of the country is overinflated. Where I live a tiny two bedroom home is selling for a quarter of a million dollars. That is absolutely insane. The three major issues I look for in a candidate are:

1. The national debt.

2. Alternative energy research. Car and energy companies are not doing their jobs because oil is cash in their pockets. So the government is going to have to push them in the right direction.

3. Lowering the defense budget. Seriously who in the hell are we Americans so afraid of all the time? We spend more on defense then the entire rest of the world combined. Eisenhower warned us about the military-industrial complex and those words have come true. There are entire corporations who give kickbacks to politicians and have powerful lobbyists whose income comes entirely from war-related industries.

Feel free to talk about all candidates here. I believe they are all connected by the fact they are running against each other.

Yes money and energy sources are of primary concern, as they were to me last and all elections I have voted in. In this way, I agree with Obama more then any other candidate. I haven't made up my mind who to vote for as of yet, but this man has my attention.

We spend far too much on defence and butting our noses into other peoples lives. Let them pay for their own wars, assuming it doesn't lead to another world war. I think involvement as a member of the UN is a good thing, but the US's current administration are a bunch of idiots who pick fights for their own personal gain.

My biggest problem with my fellow Americans is they often base their choice upon some issue that will never be decided. Abortion won Bush the election. Kerry might have been a shitty president, but he couldn't have been any worse then Bush. Bush the butcher who starts pointless wars for his own gain and uses strong arm politics on a global scale. We need a diplomat ASAP!

Mcain is a shifty one. He is unable to admit that he made a mistake on energy. Instead of saying he changed his position, he skirts around the issue, like the snake he is. He has been around the block, but corruption and lies are his creed. I can see him getting to presidency and then flipping on all his promises with some lame excuse.

Obama wants to tackle real issues and has wanted to for some time now. He hasn't simply altered his stance to make him more excepted, because he had his stance before it was popular. As a man who speaks the truth often, I recognize this quality or lack there of in a person. I trust Obama. I never trusted Bush and I don't trust Mcain.

I never said he was going to win, but yes he is currently very 'sexy' so to speak.

Slick and a spit fire and everything so far has been well thought with sound reasoning. His charisma is something that people will naturally flock to after such a shit-stain of a president. Bush further aids all democrats by the fact that they aren't in his party. History tends to bounce back and forth between candidates of each party and especially when one side screws up so much. This feels like a Democratic year.

Though if a republican shows me something I like, I am not affraid to vote that way.

Honestly, I don't see any of the main candidates for either party as electable.

For the Republicans you have Mitt Romney, who is a Mormon and somewhat of an intellectual (not saying that either of those are bad things, but for many Republicans and Americans in general those are turn offs); Rudy Giuliani, whose whole campaign is based off 9/11 and has too many scandals; and John McCain who is about 1 billion years too old and a war monger.

The Democrats have Hilary Clinton, who is a woman and is absolutely despised by about half of America; Barack Obama, who is black and has only been in Washington for 4 years; and John Edwards, who is probably to liberal to be elected at this time and who for some reason, is perceived too feminine.

I fully expect all serious candidates for the presidency in 2008 to create a myspace account. It's just like what Bush Sr. did in 1992-he blasted Clinton for doing a show on MTV and an interview with Arsenio, and then proceeded to do an MTV program when he realized he could pander to the younger vote by doing so. The same thing's going to happen with myspace.
