Hey all - I apologize if this is not correct posting etiquette - this is my first post.
I am currently conducting a study at the University of Maryland. The goal of the study is to see if crowd sourcing and tagging of films can better enhance recommendations systems. The study allows for participants to tag films with any/all attributes that apply for that film. In this way I hope to determine whether it is possible to fully define a film through tagging. Once the data is collected, the film definitions (obtained through the tags) can be used to feed a recommendation system where films would be recommended to a user based on the makeup of other films s/he enjoyed.
At this point in my study I am looking to garner data from film experts or people who can be defined as knowledgeable in the field. My next step is to compare data gathered from experts with the data I collected from the crowd. I was hoping to elicit some responses from the forum here.
I would greatly appreciate any time you can devote to this survey. I have built a web interface that, when loaded, will randomly select a movie and display its basic information on the right hand side of the screen. Each movie has a checkbox list of attributes (divided by categories) on the left. For each movie you go through as many attributes as you can and check off the ones you think apply for this movie. If you are not familiar with this movie you can skip it by pressing the “Skip” button. There is no timing involved.
All responses are anonymous and nowhere are you asked to enter any personal information.
