Network Games 2

Carrying on from the previous thread.
Hosting a network game on FM 2005.
quote Sports Interactive
Ok there are several important factors needed to be taken into consideration when deciding to host a game of FM2005. First of all you need to be online. If you arent behind a router you need to know your ip using ipconfig only!!!! If you are behind a router you need to know your WAN IP and your internal IP, you also need to configure your router to allow access to your internal server which is hosting FM2005. If you aren't behind a router but have a software firewall running, you have to instruct the firewall to allow 2 way access to FM2005 If you are behind a router and also have a software firewall running, you have to know your Wan IP, Internal IP, have your router configured to allow access to your internal server hosting FM2005 and also have the software firewall on that machine set up to allow 2 way access for FM2005 on that machine.
The F.A.Q aims to help show how to do all the above ^.
Find your IP on a computer that is not behind a hardware router and has its own net connection. Open command prompt from the start menu. At the flashing cursor, type Ipconfig. Your Ip is then displayed. For AOL broadband users, the second IP that is shown is the one that you need for FM.
How to configure a bog standard wired UNEX router for FM2005 online.
Ok now we have to tell our Router what computer on our home network is going to act as a server for FM. We have to port forward. A brief analogy to help describe this, is to think of a computer network as a house, with each room being a computer and the front door as the access to the outside world (internet) The internet sees the front door (wan ip) but we need to tell it what internal room in particular is hosting ( internal IP) So basically when a player goes to access a game where the server is behind a router, he will type in the wan ip and the router will forward the player to the relevent internal ip where the server is located. For this to work we need to tell the router a) what internal ip will be used (this can be found using ipconfig on the relevent computer) b) telling the router what ports the game uses to identify itself for online play. Access your Router menu by typing in the IP of your router into IE Click on the Advanced Setup. Lets find our WanIP Wan IP Now that we know our WAN IP we want to configure our router to Port Forward. Fill out the relevent Port Info. Some Routers also have a special application tab under the NAT link that needs to be configured also. Final straw Fail safe, the DMZ
How to configure a bog standard wired Allied Telesyn Router for FM2005 online.
The same rules apply as do for the UNEX router we have port forward. First of all we type in 192.168.1.1 into IE this is the default ip of the Allied Telesynn Router. We havent specified a password, so we enter the default username "root" and leave the password box empty. From the menu on the left we click on "advanced config" and from the sub menu that comes up we click on "Virtual Server" We then set up our port forwarding service as shown here. After setting up the Port Fowarding service we need to reboot the modem to enable all these changes. We can do this from the system config menu. To find out our gaming ip, we need to source our WAN IP, we find this from the system information tab. Again the Final Fail Safe, if you are still having bother, use the DMZ function.
How to configure Windows XP Firewall to accept FM2005 Select "my network places" from the start menu. Click on "view network connections" Right click on your present internet connection. Select properties. You can disable Windows XP firewall here if you wish. To keep your Firewall on, tick the box and click on settings. We have to manually add FM as a service. Fill out the relevent service settings for FM2005. Make sure you configure your ports. ( ## FM2005 will use ports 10093. 10094 here!!!##) We are all set, dot the i's and cross the t's. quote Sports Interactive
Important Network bug news regarding game passwords
I don't know if this is meant to be.
People cannot join network games where numbers appear in the host's game password.
I tried with the help of 3 very patient volunteers to try about 50 different password combinations
The following scenarios apply
where the game password contains letters only - access allowed
a combination of letters and numbers - access denied ( rotating ball on screen followed by a long timeout)
numbers only, same as directly above. xpronic edit - Added network game F.A.Q
quote Dogs @ SI Forums
Disclaimer : this is not an official fix from the Si tean but a discovery by the UFMIG boys whilst playing their online game.
Everyone knows that the lag has been making FM2005 virtually unplayable. It was frustrating for me as i have built a highly specced pc and improved my net connection especially to play FM2005. So if my pc is good and my conn solid what was causing the problem. Well i think its the packets of info sent from the network players in a game to the host. When there is too much info getting passed down the pipe at one time this can cause bottlenecks causing game freezes. Since FM is a highly complex game that utilises lots of info at any one time, this made playing online terrible as hosts connections struggled to cope with rapid packets of info being passed per second.
So this got me thinking how do i streamline fm so it runs at its best.
Well we tried a wee experiment i got every clan member to go into preferences and disable the following
sounds, show player pics, show badges/logos show background pics, show unique ids,
the results were breathtaking why dont you try it and see for yourself

re: Network Games 2

Hi, can anyone help me? I've been hosting a network game for a while, but have recently changed ISP and connection details. I'm now trying to host a network game whilst running over a local area connection (wired). I saw the analogy made about the front door of a house and all the rooms in the house, and think this kind of applies here also. However, as I don't have a router (unless the main computer effectively acts as a router), I can't exactly follow the instructions given. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks

Sorry, I would edit the last one i wrote but am not a member (atm) and I don't therefore think it will let me edit. I have norton firewall on my pc, and also windows firewall on the main computer mine is linked to. Both computers are XP. I'm slightly ignorant on all this network stuff and don't wanna mess people around or get peoples backs up like i noticed happened in the "network games 1" thread. Thanks
