What a good idea

ive played this game for hours on end, had several breaks above the 80 mark or so. but never really anything to shout home about. keep losing cue ball, unlucky kisses etc. until i spent about 20 mins on the training table with good old Dennis Taylor. since his advice ive become such a better player, got through to a few semi finals and my game is now improving dramaitcally.

my biggest advice is dont put alot of side on the ball. you only need to be just of centre to make the ball turn effectively.
slowing shots down is a very good way of achieving good close control of the cue ball, you dont need high power shots all the time (sometimes i just love to whack those damm balls though).
i now very rarly go in to the red on the power bar, its all soft touches unless im screwing back.
in short - just off centre will cause spin plus no need to hit the balls hard to achieve this

right then imagine no balls at all on the table except the cue ball.
cue ball is on the green spot
by hitting the ball over the brown and yellow spots
and stroking it left of centre
the ball should continue along the baulk line hit the cushion and spin towards the blue spot
you can adjust the amount of spin by hitting the ball with a higher butt angle, more power and obviosly hitting further off centre.
but main problems occur when hitting too far from the centre of the cue ball, it wont travel along the line
(can you tell i play alot of snooker)
potting a ball when applying side is simple, same old story im affraid - just off centre should do the trick

My top break is 141 and I'm doing well in the rankings but I've never got past the first round of the world championships.

Neither did I mate or the next couple of seasons but when you're in it getting top 20 is easy then it gets tough, one first round exit and you're struggling, a win and you're top 10.

I visited my grandparents the other day, and played snooker with him. It had been 4 years since I had played last (not many places around here in the U.S. with snooker tables) but I was doing okay considering. Was winning for a while, could have beaten him at the end when I was only down by 3 with the 7-ball to go; 7 ball was pinned against the cushion with the cue ball 9 inches behind it, so I had meant to tap it and leave it so my grandfather couldn't get it in on his next shot... but I flinched and tapped it too light and missed the 7-ball, hahahaha. So I scratched on that and again on my next shot, and wound up losing by 17, hahahaha. Oh well.
