That's right, you heard it here first folks. League of Legends and Dota 2 are old news. Third-person MOBA SMITE is the new game to be excited about and lucky you, it's now in open beta. Yes, all you have to do is visit their website, make an account, and download the client to get in on all the action. Okay, to be serious for a second, SMITE's a lot of fun and you should check it out... while also playing League of Legends and Dota 2 at the same time.
On top of opening SMITE up to the public, Hi-Rez Studios also released a hefty patch. For a visual presentation of the updates check out the beta below, or read through these handy bullet-points:
- Graphical upgrade of Conquest Map
- Practice match against new AI opponent Ra
- In-game Team & Roster Management
- Ranked Team Conquest queue - Draft Picking for ranked and Challenge Conquest matches Improved Spectator Camera for Tournament Admins - including a 3-minute delay for spectators to prevent cheating and improved spectator controls (slow-motion, pause, rewind, fast-forward)
- Refer-A-Friend Program
If you aren't familiar with the game in the first place, SMITE is, for all intents and purposes, one hundred percent a MOBA -- it's just in the third-person instead of top-down. Farm minions, use skills to kill dudes, push down towers and ultimate destroy the enemy's base (minotaur).
As for when SMITE's official release date is? Who knows! Enjoy the open beta while it lasts, though the game will be free-to-play when it launches too. Visit SMITE's website here: link.
