Splash Damage, developers of the controversially reviewed FPS Brink, are teasing an announcement. The teaser image that appeared on the studio's website features a logo, a sort of nuclear triforce, and the date and time "11/29 11:29". It appears we're looking at the announcement of a brand new game, likely a new IP. The emblem is splashed with blood and slightly damaged, so I'm betting it's safe we're looking at another FPS.
While Brink ultimately proved a mildly successful venture, despite its failing many gamers found the game interesting. Classed-based cooperative gameplay is an area of gaming that's still very popular, but woefully unexplored by development studios. Perhaps Splash Damage has decided to take the best ideas of Brink and create a new IP.
Splash Damage is also working on another title, Rad Soldiers, a free to play game for iOS and mobile devices. It's a top-down, turn-based title, say a combination of Team Fortress 2 and Advance Wars. The reason I mention it, is because the the logo for Rad Soldiers is sort of a low detailed version of the teaser icon for the new game. Perhaps the two will cross over? A class-based FPS with current gen graphics seems right up Splash Damage's alley.
I was one of the early adopters of Brink, and while I don't think it was a terrible game I do think the marketing leading up to its release wasn't particularly honest. The game I thought I bought was not what I received. Brink ultimately proved to be one of the main reasons I don't preorder anything except proven franchises anymore. I'm more than willing to give Splash Damage another chance, but I won't put money down.
