	1st gen Alakazam is stronger than Gengar though, and it is also possible to teach Alakazam certain TMs like thunder, which make it more useful. Also Alakazam is stronger against a larger range of different types of pokemon in comparison to gengar making him/her a more versitile pokemon to have in your party. castlewars

	I know both facts of what you have just said. I know you can only use a TM once, which therefore means you look for different ones that are teachable to Alakazam, and seeing as it has a very high Special Attack and Special Defence Rate, I think you would find that in a battle with me, your Gengar would soon be K.O'ed very quickly, due to Alakazam's Power.

	i think i would choose alakazam since its more effective agents more pokemon and it is effective agens poison type pokemon and gengar happens to be a poison type or atleast part poison and i always wanted to have alakazam in my team that i always wanted to make for the e4 ------------------- In elementary school, in case of fire you have to line up quietly in a single file line from the smallest to tallest. What is the logic? Do tall people burn slower?

	Gengar is an all around better Pokemon, even though Alakazam has a monstrous Special Attack state. Gengar also has Levitate, high Speed and is a Ghost type, so just hitting it successfully can be a chore. ------------------- We don't know who we are until we see what we can do.

True although Alakazam's accuracy stats aren't so bad, and anyway due to it being able use the elemental punch moves, this allows it to be even more successful in battle against a large variety of pokemon types. Also even though Gengar has levitate, thats only truly useful in the sense that it makes Gengar resistant to ground type moves, and because of Alakazam's sheer special attack power it would make more sense to try and end the battle quickly with monstrous attacks.

	Well xvFIRESTORMvx, if you're talking about the result of a direct battle between Alakazam and Gengar then yeah, Alakazam has a slight advantage with minor leads in SpA and Spe and in Gen III its stab moves aren't working off a terrible Atk stat. On the other hand, Gengar is more versatile in general. More resistances and immunities and a more notable movepool. Shame it can't really use stab attacks in Gen III properly, but thankfully they fixed that for Gen IV onwards. Also, I don't think King X2 was referring to Alakazam hitting Gengar. More like Gengar could safely switch into a variety of moves due to its three immunities. Nothing to do with accuracy. ------------------- Fire Emblem Awakening - You Want It.

I used Gengar in Generation III and liked it much more then Alakazam and even without focus sash, you can still use a focus band although not as effective. -------------------
