BFME Crashes

I took my LOTR:BFME out again last week after a long time.
I got this great new pc with awesome features, but the game doesn't work. Every time I start the game, the launcher pops up, no problem, but then I click 'play' and the small screen that is between the launcher and the full-screen mode pops up, with Battle For Middle Earth in the middle of a Ring, and it just stays there and does nothing.

Then after a while I get this message:

EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION

The thread tried to read from or write to a virtual address for which it does not have the appropiate access.

I hope someone knows what this means, because I would really like to play it again.

I have it on win 7 ultimate 64 bit, and I have tried everything possible.

1) When i install the game it does not even create the folder "My Battle for Middle-earth Files"
2) I then manually create the folder under users/bentley/appdata/roaming/My Battle for Middle-earth Files
3) I then paste the options.ini file in there
4) start game, loader appears briefly then gone, no error msg nothing..

Is it a game version problem? game patch?
