In my fights against my friend on monday, I found it difficult to find my opponent because I only had like a 315 radar range from my head (split screen didn't help). Particulary if you play against human opponents, because they're not going to just charge at you like AIs. Pretty much, your options for a good radar head are MANTIS, CICADA2, and the radar-shaped head. Of those 3, CICADA2 is clearly the best, but they just had to give its stats to a head shape that isn't appealing to me at all. If you think it looks cool or aesthetics aren't important, use it, the high energy drain it has is barely more than the lowest energy-drain-heads + lightest radar, and CICADA2 clearly has the best stats. ------------------- Hard works pays off further down the road. 	It may have good radar, but it has high drain, crappy shell defense, and high weight. All I look for in a radar head is scanning interval. Range doesn't matter because you can't get behind someone at 500. Nothing can move you along fast enough to out-turn someone at more than about 200. And also, I clearly stated that he didn't need radar because Eschata is designed to fight AIs. Obviously you need some kind of radar against most humans. ------------------- Join AC Ravens!

	sigh Well, my comment was aimed at everyone in this case, not just JG. Other people do play against humans, and they may want to keep the radar in consideration. And like I said, the CICADA2's energy drain isn't that bad. I had taken the head that you get for beating Wildcat, which has a low energy drain. As that has no radar, and the point of this is to talk about radars, I equipped the lowest-grade radar (700 range, more than enough in arena combat). combined, they had a 396 energy drain compared to 425 with CICADA2. It also had less AP, more total weight, less Vs. ECM (pointless outside of missions), lower overall defense, and lower cooling. Clearly, if you want a good radar and are looking at efficiency, CICADA2 has no peer. ------------------- Hard works pays off further down the road. Procrastination pays off now.

	Yours may have been aimed at everyone, but I only suggested that JG use it. I prefer it on most of my cores because on a highly mobile mid-range cores, which most of mine are, radar isn't very useful, but cooling and energy drain are paramount. 	If you like the CR-HB154, you may also like theCR-YH7052. It's got better energy drain, AP, and weight, moderatly less cooling and defense. Seems pretty comparable to me, and maybe a good switch if you're just a bit overweight on a design with the HB154 ------------------- Hard works pays off further down the road. 	I just quickly loaded on Nexus and made a few changes to see how they'd handle. Read my previous posts to see what I was planning. All in all I think I'm more satisfied with this tweaked Eschata; it still kills just as fast as it used to, but now it's other areas have been generally improved. You can't argue with that. I also retuned all the parts; some of them were carrying residual tuning from past cores (which I was still running, and thus couldn't afford to change) but as Eschata is now my primary AC I figured all the tuning should be devoted specifically to it. I'll post the specs for the tweaked core in a few days when I have more time, and when I'm sure that this is the final form I want the core to take. One thing I will say: I got the CICADA2 back on there and I did end up going with 100% tuning to ECM. Arc, I know you think that's useless but when I look at the other stats tuning them seems even more futile. In the long run, 20 less weight or 50 more cooling (or 10-15 more shell or energy defense) really isn't going to do anything at all. I'd rather have the extra 80 someodd ECM, which actually will make a difference for a lot of missions. It's not of much value in the arena I'll admit, but then again neither are any of the other options. And you need to put that tuning somewhere: I chose ECM because I still play the missions, and I stand by this choice. ------------------- --/-@

	There's always weight for head parts, probably the most tuned function for me at least. Glad to see you 2 kids playing nice once more, I was sorta waiting for an all out AC argument, perhaps next year. Arc is having OP-I withdrawl apparently. 	i have been messing around with ECM pods, and if your AC head got low ECM it will really hurt ya in a PvP fight when you get to close to it

	But there's the problem shadowace, the ECM pods are really only useful when they disable the targeting lock. Unless you use the single most powerful pods available, then you're not likely to affect the opponent at all, and if you do, you pretty much only disable their radar for a second or so at a time. Add in the fact that the ECMs have a really long reload time (meaning you can only fire with your left arm weapon and/or EOs until you are allowed to switch weapons) and the fact that you can't drop ECMs means that they're not worth it except in rare circumstances. Oh, and the best (read: only useful) ECMs have a pathetic 5 ammo. Whoopee. ------------------- Hard works pays off further down the road. Procrastination pays off now.

	Actually, there's no penalty for using ECMs if you use the new control scheme. Maybe that's why I seem to find them more useful. Also, when you're at extreme close range with an opponent, the only time ECM is useful anyway, radar is rather essential. If you lose track of your opponent for just a second they can get behind you and cost you the match. Finally, your ECM rating needs to be around twice the ECM level of the pod to completely negate the effect, so you need to have an extremely high Vs. 	Okay I really need to submit another AC. I'll do it when I get home today. The AC I plan on submitting is pretty much a remake of my AC from AC2.

	I'm sorry if this offends some people but if you need to rely on radar to pilot an AC, efficiently, you are lacking a good deal of ability. I do realize that it's a huge advantage to have radar in arenas like Born City or the Marine Base, especially the marine, but both arenas start you out in front of your opponent. If you lose track of them from there you are either too antsy a pilot or slow. The above said most certainly doesn't pertain to heavy/slow ACs. If your foe has twice the movement ability I can understand that you'll need to see where he/she is jumping around if you cannot keep up. And I completely agree with how useless ECM pods are...A trained monkey would have to be at the controls to not see the mine floating there. And if you are close enough to the person to be affected as the pod comes out then you shouldn't be relying on weapons that need to lock on. If you happened to be lured into the range of one then that's nothing but your own fault, if it even affects you that is. I do realize that close ranged ACs would have difficulty but if you are fast enough to be a close range AC you should be fast enough, and talented enough, to stay away and dodge while the ECM pod is in effect, if it even works at all. Close ranged heavy AC? Very possible but that's another discussion. maybe I'll post a few design suggestions for that later. ------------------- Lanseer Rohin. The fighting style i use is pretty basic, use the back weapon for long range and right arm for close, i fire the left arm a sec before the other because it will stun the target long enough so that i will have a higher chance for a hit. I only got 80% so far ingame so if there is a part that is way better please tell me.
