Octabrains are too damn hard

I am sick and tired of dying against these overpowered pieces of shit. If you face 1 on it's own or you have decent cover to hide behind they are fine. But facing 2 or more with shit cover makes these things so god damn hard.A lot of the time you will fight up t 5 or 6 at once.

Because most cover is destructible there's often no decent cover to hide behind.If you run they will just shoot ahead of you so you run into their attacks.But if you are fighting more than one and you stop so their attack misses you, another Octabrain will shoot at you so you end up backing into the 2nd Octabrains attack anyway and keep in mind that you usually fight at least 3 of them so if you dodge two attacks you will very likely get hit by a 3rd attack.

You also can't shoot rockets at them because they just launch your rockets back at you. You can throw pipebombs and activate them before they launch them back at you but you can only hold 4 of them at once and it takes at least 2 to kill them on the hardest difficulty.

RPG is more or less unusable, the shell will explode on the energy ball crap. It's great for bosses to be sure, but you tend to have one lying around waiting to be picked up, so I tend to ditch it during the usual combat cycles.

Honestly, Ive been saving my pipebombs for the octabrains. Sure, the load screen says that they can throw those back at you as well, but from what Ive noticed, they are one of the best weapons to use on them.

You chuck a pipebomb at one, preferrably one close to others. The Octabrain seems to instinctively latch on to the bomb telekineticly with that purple beam. Once you see that, you know youre in business. Let him reel it in close, and then detonate it damaging/killing the whole group.


The guns in this game just dont pack the punch that they did in Duke 3D. The Ripper used to be one of my favorite guns. The cool high-pitched firing sound and high damage used to make mincemeat of those Octabrains. In DNF, it takes a ton of ammo to bring just one of em down, and to top it off it doesnt sound as cool as it used to.

I dont recall ever having to reload the Ripper after a mere 50 rounds, either. Thats some f'd up BS right there.

It is entirely unusable on them. You will never hit them with a rocket because they launch the rocket right back at you. On Insane that is an instat death.

That explains so much.

Just wait till you play it on insane. You won't think pipebombs are that great against the Octabrains

Octabrains aren't hard at all. If you can't stand a little challenge then go back to your Lego games.

The last lego game I played and enjoyed was lego Star Wars 2.Since that game I have only even tried 1 other lego game and I barely played it. As for not being able to stand the challenge. I have spent insane (no pun intended) ammounts of time trying to beat this game on insane so obviously I can stand the challenge.


Sure it does get damn frustrating dying on the same section 20 times over but if I didn't like the challenge that DN brings then I wouldn't continue to play it on insane.

In the end it didn't matter because I plated this mofo

Beer really doesn't do much to help, you can take maybe one more hit and Duke's so shitfaced that it doesn't really matter cause you can't focus your sight on the damned thing.
