Impressions?

I just read IGN's review of this game, a 7.5, which is quite disappointing to me, I was really looking forward to this game. Does anyone have this game yet, and if so, what do you think of it?

re: Impressions?

I have a demo of Cold Winter. The blood and bad language is removed but still quite good. The full game can only be better with the Soldier of Fortune style gore.

re: Impressions?

I think this game is one of the best first person shooters out right now.

Ive always enjoyed any first person shooter that Renderware has been involved with.

The soldier of fortune "gibbing" effect is really nice as well, sending body parts flying in all directions. You can fully dismember a fallen enemy by shooting each of his appendages as well, leaving just a torso. They disappear fairly quickly, but the violence factor is definately there.

Im having a blast playing it right now, Id definately rent this game at the very least.

re: Impressions?

I agree wicha' Stinger. It's not quite a 9 pointer on the gamer scale, but I seriously don't count it as low as a 7.5 - I've just started playing, (multiplayer first), and though I noticed the models looked kinda PS1-ish, and heavily ...oddly, stylized, the gameplay kicked in where it counted, and most folk will agree with me when I say gameplay matters more than graphics, as long as some sort of attempt was made to put in decent graphics. This isn't a let down.

I really dug the momentum with player movement, not being able to stop still on the fly, without having to apply some pressure into moving in the opposite direction, even if just a quick tap. I like it, makes you feel like you're on the run, and that's a difference that a lot of FPS these days don't put in there.

Some folks may not like it, and/or find it hard to handle at first, but you can get used to it. I didn't like the weapon damage at first; pumping a bot full of lead, emptying a full clip into the sucker and not having him die.. but that was changable, as there are settings which switch damage to realistic mode, 50% damage, or one shot kill. The weapons themselves are pretty cool, and there's a good variety. I'm also glad this game supports 4 player splitscreen as well as online. It has a few bots, matching the amount of human players on the map. Good game modes, and the single player story which i've browsed through quickly (first mission) isn't horrid.

Can't get ahead of myself, but I doubt it'll get worse just yet. I'll have to save a final judging for when i've completed the game, but so far it isn't dissapointing the way I thought that score would have lead me to believe.

The gibs n' gore are great. P90= slayer of appendages.

re: Impressions?

Right then. I played it yesterday and here are my thoughts

1. Very interactive. almost everything is collectable, shootable or moveable
2. Nice graphics
3. A little too easy, I can't seem to die at all, bullets seem to do no damage
4. Annoyed at only being able to cary 2 weapons
5. Nice, very nice to be able to make your own grenades and the like.
6. Good missions and side missions

Overall (I may add more later) I like it. 8/10

*update* oh yes, but the file sizes are HUGE!! like 2 MB

re: Impressions?

Thank god it didn't include a "stealth aspect."

Anyways, I loved this game. Got it when it came out, and it still gets played every time the lot of us are hangin' out. The multiplayer is just so addictive. Sniper battles, absurd flag tag matches, or even a single-shot elimination match. All of it is great.
