It wouldn't be a Nintendo presentation conveniently held during E3 without some big Mario announcement, and thankfully the company readied two. President Satoru Iwata announced both Super Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8 during his special E3 edition of Nintendo Direct.
Super Mario 3D World marks the return of Princess Peach as a playable character for a total of four including Luigi, Toad and Mario himself; yes, you are supposed to be getting serious Super Mario Bros. 2 vibes from all this. And where Mario be without him playing dressup in animal costumes? Super Mario 3D World introduces the new cat suit for all new wall climbing and cat scratching abilities, plus it looks so darn cute on everyone.
The game is scheduled for release on the Wii U this holiday season.
Mario Kart 8 marks the series' debut on Wii U and will retain 12-player online racing in a variety of vehicles including motorbikes and hang-gliders. The game introduces antigravity which will hopefully lead to some pretty crazy track designs; you'll definitely be able to race on walls and completely upside down if the trailer and screens were any indication! Mario Kart 8 is set for a Spring 2014 launch.
